Privileged to meet Padma Vibhushan, Maharaja @drkaransingh in Delhi.

A man of exceptional letters, he recounted how his esteemed father, Maharaja Hari Singh, sent him to @doon_school departing from tradition; how he joined politics; how he witnessed birth of #Bangladesh (1971). A man whose life was shrouded with regality yet who remains so firmly resolved to champion empathy, harmony, values.

Shared his reflections on embedding and advancing 🇧🇩🇮🇳 ties.

Truly a rarity to listen to his world views spanning nearly one century, including nearly six decades in public life and eventually in spirituality.

My dear RAGHU bhai (@RaghuRai1), I won't ever hear your heartfelt voice again over phone, greeting me in immaculate Urdu and filling void with your signature warmth!

Last (2025) April, within two weeks of joining in Delhi, a call comes to me from him, "Reyaz bhai, I dare address you as 'bhai', hope you would grant me that allowance...". He sends his book, BIRTH OF A NATION, thru his daughter (based on all rare negatives of 1971 War that he misplaced in the pile of his archive).

He was one of my childhood heroes. Many #youth who may not know: in August 1971, a 29-year-old photo-journalist in @TheStatesmanLtd, Raghu Rai, entered #Bangladesh to cover 🇧🇩Liberation War. He shared with me accounts of intense suffering, agony and humiliation of #people that he witnessed in battlefield - villages - Refugee Camps. Raghu bhai narrated to me a chilling account of an ambush when he kept clicking even braving splinters!  

What he saw on the ground reminded him of his childhood when his family had to cross over to India (1947) braving so much of uncertainties. He was barely 5, then.
In 1972, 🇮🇳 Govt. awarded a young Raghu Rai #PadmaShri for his epochal photography on 🇧🇩War.

Since April '25, Raghu bhai embraced me just as a younger brother. A giant of man in the world of #photography #art #aesthetics, each time I would call him, he would greet me on phone almost like hugging me. Words just won't suffice.

Raghu bhai, in eight decades, you touched so many souls, across lands. You didn't belong just to #India but to the world.
Adieu, Raghu bhai. RIP.

In celebrating #bengalinewyear in #India, team @bdhc_delhi presented today an authentic mix of traditional #food (spread of ভর্তা & পিঠা) from #Bangladesh to 🇮🇳friends.
Food was blended with cultural performances by 🇧🇩🇮🇳 student musicians & Embassy family members. Friends from West Bengal - Bihar - Orissa even joined to showcase their popular food!
As Tamils, Assamese, Punjabis and others celebrate their new years, we got all under one roof - to underline how #people across boundaries interact seamlessly and #culture #music blend smoothly, blurring lines and distinctions.

In a graceful and profound commemoration, @bdhc_delhi colleagues and I joined men | women in uniform & diplomats for #ANZACDay Dawn Service at Delhi War Cemetery.
It's to honour courage | sacrifice of those who laid their lives in Gallipoli (1915) during WWI and in battlefields since.
Thanks Amb Philip Green (@AusHCIndia) for drawing us together, to stand in solemn reflection and salute unknown men | women who did their most to secure us in peace and harmony.
