I met with a young founder yesterday who was embarrassed to meet with his college lecturer since she had huge expectations from him..

He felt he hasn't achieved much in the past one year or so of building his company. He is feeling low and unmotivated to move on..

I reminded him why he started the business and to the fact that he is not in a competition with anyone except himself...

The "business" of starting and running a startup is ruthless. You can't give in to social pressure and sometimes it takes time to see tangible results, and even when you see it. People around you expect you to do more.

The last thing you want to do as a startup up founder is to try to prove yourself to the wrong people. The only person you are supposed to satisfy is your CUSTOMER. The rest will take care of themselves.
