This Shiny Arcanine I got through PokeClassicNetwork which I decided to turn into a Ribbon Master (sorta) is finally leaving Sinnoh! Wish I had HeartGold or SoulSilver to grab the Legend Ribbon before he leaves for good, but oh well.

the glitch that lets you create any shiny pokemon on demand.
back in gold and silver, the game used hidden values called dvs to determine if a pokemon was shiny. normally you had to hunt for them with terrible odds, but there’s a exploit that lets you rewrite those values directly.
it’s known as the coin case glitch, and it’s one of the most powerful arbitrary code execution methods in the entire series.
put the pokemon you want to make shiny in the first slot of your party. a small, stable party helps (many people keep a low-level pokemon in slot 3 for better reliability). having a quagsire in the party is highly recommended, its memory layout acts as an “anchor” so the code executes cleanly without crashing the game.
next, go to the pc and rename two boxes with these exact strings:
- box 1: !/gZ59
- box 2: !/hZ9l
head to the pokemon center in cherrygrove city. stand still, then take exactly four steps to the right. open the pokedex, play the cry of a bellsprout, and exit immediately. then open your bag and use the coin case.
the coin case is the perfect trigger because of how the game loads item description text into memory. the specially crafted box names become executable assembly code that directly modifies the dv bytes of the target pokemon.
if done correctly, your lead pokemon instantly becomes shiny. the glitch works on literally anything, legendaries, starters, even mew or celebi.
