2/2 Right now Carney is infinitely better than Pollievre, but I question the long term consequences. If Pollievre were PM, he would (rightly) be getting pushback for all of the crappy things he would undoubtedly try to do. Instead, we have Carney who has cobbled together a majority with conservative floor crosses, thrown out climate commitments (even using courts to do this when necessary), infringed on indigenous rights, doubled down on oil pipelines (which will saddle taxpayer with debt and likely won’t break even for 30 years), proposed changes to legislation which is inconvenient (such as exemptions to the species at risk act with interfere with the TMX pipeline which raises the risk of extinction for the Southern Residrnt Orca population, eroded freedom of speech with Bill C-9, Bill C-22, and the Online Harms Act, has expressed support for AI and data centres, told Canadians we need to be less dependent on the U.S while simultaneously awarding defence contracts to American companies, and ignores the loophole which allows Canadian weapons to be used in Gaza via the US…. and I’m just getting started.

My fear, is that all these things will breed discontent. So in a couple of election cycles, people might vote conservatives again because they’re fed up. By then the conservatives could be a much further right party than they are now. Pollievre is unpopular within his party and there’s an effort to get them out. What if he gets replaced with someone like Jamil Jivani?

Donald Trump didn’t get elected because Americans are stupid. He got elected because they were fed up with a Democratic Party who repeatedly disappointed them. I see Carney like Obama, he is very popular and people are putting their hoping and trust in him. If he doesn’t deliver, we may end up with our own Trump following his tenure. And he has empowered the PM‘s office anyways that his ultimate successor will also benefit from.
