Oh look. A year ago today. First day of lockdown in Netherlands again. It’s almost like nothing has changed isn’t it? Although this year it feels quite quaint to be worrying about wrapping paper when concerned about getting home for my grandfather’s funeral
Being 4 days in to the new lockdown in Holland, I can confirm to UK friends who are now tier 4 that wrapping paper is this lockdown’s toilet paper. Or come to think of it, maybe toilet paper is going to be this lockdown’s wrapping paper? #lockdown#tier4#CovidChristmas
@RosamundUrwin@BBCRosAtkins Here in Amsterdam, my husband and I joke we’ve hung out with @BBCRosAtkins more than anyone else during pandemic. Reassuringly measured but incisive analysis. Nuanced and never patronising. ‘Let’s see what Ros says’ has been our nightly refrain. Extending to your article tonight!
@sophiearumble I remember that time and still shiver to think how different things were then. It’s heartbreaking. All power to you as you unpick the past. And pls direct some of your kindness to yourself. You’re doing great 😘
But at least they can still look up to real life men holding positions of power and influence despite having zero grasp of reality, never mind equality. Phew.
"We have seen Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, Luke Skywalker, the Equalizer all replaced by women, and men are left with the Krays and Tommy Shelby," the MP for Don Valley said. "Is there any wonder we are seeing so many young men committing crime?" https://t.co/pKmebaZG93
@Nomad_Travel Hi Nomad. Will you be adding an option for arrivals from Amber countries in EU, fully vaxx’d with recognised vaccine, just not by NHS? Thanks!
@clhubes@SPalermoNH@jeales1 Please try to fight the guilt. You need headspace to regroup with yourself, think up ideas and find your flow well before paid work comes along. At times like this my motto is ‘think like a man’. Dads sweat this stuff less and on this one they’re right!
Dutch journalist Peter R de Vries still fighting for his life.
He refused to live in fear. Society suffers when investigative reporters can’t operate freely.
This isn’t your Dutch news from the cycle path.
#peterrdevries 🙏🏽
@AmandavMulligen Gross on all levels. Just waved off my husband to ref his first hockey match as emergency stand in for daughter’s team. He’s never played and speaks zero Dutch. Hoping he gets a better reception 😬
The instrumentalization of the tragedy of Jews who suffered, were humiliated, marked with a yellow star, isolated in ghettos & murdered during the Holocaust, in a debate on different systems that aim at protecting public health is a sad symptom of moral and intellectual decline.
