Want my opinion?
“esports” as it’s known today should have never existed
We thought seeing pro gaming be recognized by the mainstream was the end goal and something to be proud of. To finally see our passions and “nerd culture” be recognized by the bigger population of people… but we were so wrong, because with that came corporate franchising and these suit and tie big wigs who just wanted a piece of the pie that have never picked up a controller in their life.
We’re not suit and tie, briefcases, oval desk board meeting with water on the table kinda people.
We’re crowded hotel ballroom, sleep on floor if you have to, drop a paycheck for a road-trip 5 states away to try and make a fucking name for yourself kinda motherfuckers, and those were the best god damn years in this industry.
“esports” was never meant for formality, “esports” was brought on by a small group of people with a passion for bringing people together through the love of video games, NO MATTER WHAT IT TOOK.
There’s more passion and love in these almost 20 year old photos of shitty smelling gamer filled hotels than anything I’ve been seeing from these business first franchises.
I would give anything to have this back. Pro gaming needs to go back home.
Rats will be looking for an ORG to represent in the upcoming Pro League season on Apex Legends.
