A man identified as Mohammed Ansari entered the sanctum sanctorum of the Sri Santoshi Mata Temple in Dilsukhnagar, Hyderabad, and threw sticks at the deity idol.

Devotees and temple staff intervened, caught him, and handed him over to the police.

Some reports also state that he is undergoing a mental-health evaluation. The circumstances and motive remain under investigation.

The irony is that in cases like these, the accused is often reported to be mentally unwell afterward, and somehow, the temple is what they end up remembering.

Attacks on temples, assaults on Hindu sentiments, and appeasement politics have become commonplace in Telangana under the Congress rule.

The attack on Santoshi Mata Temple in Dilsukhnagar is deeply condemnable. What is even more disturbing is the growing sense that the Congress Government has failed to take the protection of Hindu places of worship and the law and order situation seriously with no action till date on series of attacks on temples.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s own “Congress means Muslims, Muslims mean Congress” rhetoric raises serious concerns.

The Congress Government must stop its appeasement politics, take responsibility for the deteriorating law-and-order situation, offer an unconditional apology to Hindus for its failure to protect our places of worship and sentiments and initiate strict action against the culprits.
