Phillip Rees suffered from terrible domestic abuse from his wife Susan Rees for 42 years.
23 month suspended sentence - two year restraining order. No deterrent. No justice.
If the genders were reversed, the sentence would not have been suspended. https://t.co/r4udQya1Lq

Huge thank you to Darryl Matthews, a male survivor of domestic abuse, for this vitally important message. Please read below.

Hey 👋
The Our Own Words Survey is a platform for anyone who has experienced domestic abuse to speak their truth to power. It’s an anonymous survey.
We’ve already had over 100 males take part in the survey but we want even more to take part and get their voices heard.
If you can, please share with your networks.
Thank you 😊

Our team have been very busy this week answering helpline calls, training and speaking to partners across the UK.
Yesterday our team were at RAF Leeming AND the Aldershot Garrison as part of our vital work in supporting male victims and survivors within the Armed Forces.
Spreading false and unevidenced allegations about men is a worrying trend especially when there is no consequence for doing so. It is a form of coercive control. This case below shows the devastating impact it has.

Thank you to @wesstreeting@Jess4Lowestoft and Baroness Merron for joining my roundtable with people who have experienced DA yesterday.
Lots of practical solutions emerging to make our health system safer for victims and to better support their recovery.
We have a first class recovery programme for male survivors of domestic abuse that continually receives great feedback. The programme called "Acorn" was developed and is managed by @MaybeMaz

Does the UN care about boys and men?
Well, it doesn’t seem like it…
We’ve had enough. The boys, men and fathers of this world matter, too. It’s time for change.

No professionals speaking for us. Our Own Words.
The survey that broke records in 2026 is still open. Every response adds to the UK's largest ever survivor-led, survivor-designed, survivor-reported dataset. The survey runs annually so we can track whether anything is actually changing for survivors.

No one is surprised sadly. It is clearer as it ever has been that successive governments want to erase the existence of male victims. Below is just another example.
The National Police Chiefs Council has published the 5-year report into domestic abuse-related deaths. The horrific total is 1,452 tragedies in 5 years.
394 of those were men, including 165 homicide victims & 123 suicides of male DV victims.
Here's Jess Phillips's intro
@PadovaGozzi@youve_got_toby@RashidSunook We use official figures as is important to focus on the issues rather than the veracity of facts. On the 3-5 per week, this is based on 5% of male suicides having been a victim in the year, extrapolated against annual male suicides (5k a year)

Report shows 27% of domestic abuse linked suicides feature a male victim. We believe it is higher due to male non-disclosure and police and definitely coroners not believing bereaved families because it was a man. @CollegeofPolice@PoliceChiefs@TheVKPP

🔹 98.3% experienced at least 1
🔹 50%+ experienced 10+
🔹 Linked to PTSD, depression & suicidality
This is widespread, harmful, and must be taken seriously in family courts

Our Chair @BelvedereBrooks spoke at the @UKHouseofLords' Committee analysing the Domestic Abuse Act. He raised the lack of men coming forward, non-inclusive training, family courts and why they are called victims of violence against women? Start 11:47👇
