Hello friends travelling to Bangkok for the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings. I'd like to share that on 15 October, I will be convening a high-level panel on Africa's solar manufacturing future, hosted by the Africa Green Industrialisation Project (AGIP) and moderated by the wonderful Martine Dennis, founder and host of Africa Here and Now and formerly of the BBC and Al Jazeera.

The evening will also mark the launch of our new framework paper, From Price-Taker to Producer: Africa in the Global Solar Value Chain, which I co-authored with Dr Vinayak Bhardwaj.

Africa is the world's fastest-growing solar market, yet it makes almost none of the technology it installs. The paper asks how the continent can enter the solar value chain, drawing lessons from how South East Asia turned assembly into a springboard for higher-value production.

The programme opens with a keynote and a short presentation of the paper's findings, followed by a panel bringing together perspectives on development finance, manufacturing, continental trade, China–Africa relations and feminist political economy. Further speakers will be announced in due course.

Diary of a girl that’s wrapping up her second master’s degree😎

My day has been couch, food, a neighborhood walk, music and thesis writing.

My thesis is due on the 2nd of November, and time seems to be flying so any chance I get to just be home, I’m locking in.

I will be speaking in the city on the 26th of September. I haven’t been to Bulawayo in over 2 years so that weekend is very much about reconnecting with where it all started.

The weekend will also mark my last weekend in Zimbabwe. I’ve had an absolutely transformative experience at the #UnitedNations. I look forward to the few days left with the teams I get to work with and learn from.
