#Newpaper📢 in @PLOSONE with @LAlvarezFilip where we investigate how contrasting levels of habitat degradation affects the functional diversity of fish traits on Caribbean coral reefs

Had a chance to dive in Cancún yesterday and sadly witnessed a lot of bleaching. All colonies of Agaricia that I saw were bleached. Anemones seem to be getting hit hard too, many Condylactis were also bleached. Water was 29c, hot and getting hotter.
Marine heatwaves persist in Florida, the Gulf of Mexico, & the Eastern Tropical Pacific. The Caribbean continues to heat up, with all @CoralReefWatch Regional Virtual Stations at Bleaching Watch or higher! Please continue submitting your bleaching data to: https://t.co/cNTkriO7kP
Even gorgonians (soft corals), which have been more resilient in this part of the world, are severely affected by temperature, and most are either pale or bleached.
Want to know how exactly reef fishes bite & what it means for their behaviour & for reef ecology?

1⃣ Behavioural changes
2⃣ Morphological changes
3⃣ Shift in dynamics (e.g. birth rate)
4⃣ Abundance decline

Which skills are needed to become a data scientist?
I've been getting a ton of questions on which skills, so I wrote an in-depth article on it. ❤️

Heard of 🌟functional traits🌟?
A powerful tool to predict ecology!
But are we using their full potential, or is 'functional' just a "vague linguistic ornament causing confusion"?

🚨New paper is out showing that SWAtlantic corals are #keystone species supporting juvenile and adult fish🐟Good news: coral loss would lead to limitted functional erosion of our generalist fish assemblages💪Led by AndreLuza & ReefSyn team🇧🇷!👇@SciReports https://t.co/8RmFyfUxhH
