Two companies of Chitral Scouts led by Colonel Mutaah Ul Mulk liberated Sakrdu from Dogra forces in June 1948 after a siege.

As for volunteers, a lashkar from Drosh, led by Haiderul Mulk, took part in fighting in Kashmir in early October 1947.

I remember those choppers flying over my village that day. Later, those gunships were dismantled and the parts were airlifted by Pakistani helicopters. It used to be quite a sight, seeing helicopters flying with large parts dangling beneath them.
