Let's talk investment for a minute before the France vs Spain semi-final kicks off...

Our trips abroad are not about sightseeing; they are about presenting the strongest case for Kenya as the region's preferred investment hub.

We showcase the opportunities available in Kenya while exploring partnerships that increase exports, attract investment, and create jobs for our young people.

Two months ago, I joined H.E. President William Ruto on a visit to Kazakhstan, where we held a business forum and witnessed the signing of significant trade agreements and MoUs.

This afternoon, I met a high-level delegation of investors from Kazakhstan who are in Kenya to cement partnerships in mining, transport and logistics, as well as the tea and coffee sectors.

Kazakhstan is rich in minerals and has extensive expertise in mineral exploration and processing. The investors are keen to establish a logistics hub at the Port of Mombasa to reduce cargo costs and transit time.

They are also exploring direct cargo flights to Astana and, most importantly, are interested in sourcing more Kenyan tea and coffee.

We agreed to connect them with local tea and coffee suppliers while advancing discussions on port logistics and mining. They are ready for business, and we are ready to partner for the prosperity of our nation. These engagements will create jobs, unlock new opportunities for our businesses, and grow our economy.

The delegation was led by Nariman Absametov, CEO of Tau-Ken Samruk, a state-owned mining company, and H.E. Barlybay Sadykov, Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Kenya.

Dangote's planned oil refinery in Lamu will require a new generation of highly specialized welders. The same skills will be needed in shipbuilding and other strategic industries.

We must ensure that when these opportunities arise, Kenyan youth are first in line, not watching from the sidelines because they lack the required skills.

The ongoing revival of Kenya’s automotive industry is also creating demand for a new generation of mechanics, particularly those skilled in electric vehicles.

These are well-paying, high-impact jobs, and we cannot afford to prepare after the opportunities have arrived.

As a Ministry, we have made a deliberate decision not to wait until Kenyans complain that they are being left out of key technical jobs. We will prepare our young people early.

Today, I visited the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI) in Nairobi, where I directed the institution to develop, within the next 10 days, a training curriculum aligned to our national priorities and the industrialisation agenda as set out by H.E. President William Ruto.

Beyond specialized welding, KIRDI has the capacity to equip our youth with practical skills in value addition for leather, honey, tea, coffee and other priority value chains.

With financing from the Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) and strong collaboration with county governments, we can nurture a new generation of local industrialists and change the narrative that only foreign investors can establish factories in our County Industrial Parks and Special Economic Zones.

I also challenged KIRDI to partner with schools through industrial tours and career talks to expose learners to opportunities in manufacturing and innovation from an early age. We must inspire the next generation to see industry as a viable and rewarding career path.

The next time a teacher asks, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I hope many more children will confidently answer, "I want to be an industrialist."

Later, we visited the upcoming KIRDI Techno Centre in South B, which is under construction.

Our vision is to develop it into a centre of excellence for industrial research, innovation, skills development and manufacturing, serving not only Kenya but the wider region.

If you can’t name the car dealership that you paid over 2 million for a faulty car, then it’s safe enough for us to conclude Mombasa car dealers threatened by Joan (whom you paid a fraction of the over 2 million) have bribed you to tarnish her name. I am even questioning if you ever bought that car, we may need to verify with transaction evidences.
