Today, President Trump met with Ahmad al-Sharaa, the terrorist turned Syrian president.
Syria today remains a land of suffering. Christians, Druze, and other minorities are dying at the hands of terrorists while al-Sharaa’s regime looks the other way. The government’s silence in the face of such evil is complicity.
As the U.S. recently recognized in designating Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern,” regimes that tolerate or enable religious persecution must be held accountable. Syria is no exception.
Congress should not vote to lift a single sanction until Damascus demonstrates real change—an end to state-tolerated violence, the release of prisoners of conscience, and tangible protection for every faith community.
