The General Education Program at NJCU creates lifelong learners prepared for success in their personal and civic lives. While a major prepares students for their chosen career path, the General Education Program equips students with the skills and knowledge that make them more adaptable in a fast-evolving job market.

Beginning in Fall 2024, NJCU's new General Education program will feature exciting and progressive changes. All courses approved for General Education requirements in New Jersey’s Community Colleges will also be accepted at NJCU. Many of these courses are also part of students’ majors, and so most existing students will be closer to completing the General Education Requirements by migrating to the new GenEd program. Students who entered before fall 2024 may elect to migrate to this new program. If they do not migrate, they will follow the requirements in place during their term of entry.

Major news announced this week! NJCU has been selected to receive up to $3 million in federal funding from the 🇺🇲 U.S. Department of Education under its Fiscal Year 2024 grants to support the Promoting Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans Program (PPOHA).

The grant funding was announced on October 15, 2024 during a check presentation ceremony on campus as Congressman Rob Menendez (@RobMenendez4NJ) and Congresswoman LaMonica McIver joined NJCU Interim President Andrés Acebo @NJCUPresident) and other academic leaders. The grant submission was authored by Dr. Muriel K. Rand.

NJCU continues seeking partnership opportunities that expand higher education access and equity to students in New Jersey and on July 18, NJCU and Essex County College formally signed the Essex|NJCU Express Transfer Agreement, at a signing ceremony at Essex's Newark campus.

NJCU Interim President Andrés Acebo (@NJCUPresident) and Essex President Augustine A. Boakye, Ph.D. joined with academic leaders from both institutions for a signing ceremony, and were joined by Assemblywoman Carmen T. Morales of legislative district 34 and long-time Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr., a 1976 NJCU alumnus and a Gothic Knight football Hall of Famer and legend.

With this agreement, Essex County College students in good academic standing who have earned an Associate of Arts or Science degree at Essex, will be granted joint admission into NJCU with junior academic status, in the same or similar academic program of study.
