@UncleButch2112@DasMeldrichen@real_andrii_x@IAPonomarenko I’ll try to make it even simpler for you: you are a Ukrainian leader. You are being invaded by Russia. Do you think it prudent to eliminate all your own self-defense capabilities, and give Russia a veto over any security guarantees?
@UncleButch2112@DasMeldrichen@real_andrii_x@IAPonomarenko No, I’ve engaged with you in good faith. Now it’s time for you to do the same. Give me one reason why the motive your linked NYT+WSJ expressed for Ukraine to kill the 2022 talks (Russia having a veto over Ukraine’s security) is NOT valid. This seems like a pretty big concern, no?
@UncleButch2112@DasMeldrichen@real_andrii_x@IAPonomarenko Seriously. Find me a single reference to anyone from “the west” derailing the talks. A single crumb of a reference. Read the article you sent me, and tell me where exactly it indicates that the west pushed Ukraine away from a deal.
@UncleButch2112@DasMeldrichen@real_andrii_x@IAPonomarenko Because you’re literally wrong, and it’s clear that you’ve neither read the article nor the screenshots I’ve posted. Boris Johnson is not even mentioned a single time in that article. There is quite literally nothing in the article that supports what you’re saying.
@UncleButch2112@DasMeldrichen@real_andrii_x@IAPonomarenko Yes. There was a document that might have formed an agreement. Ukraine was willing to even drastically reduce the size of their military. But Russia refused to allow any security guarantees to Ukraine without their veto. That was what ultimately scuttled the talks.
@UncleButch2112@DasMeldrichen@real_andrii_x@IAPonomarenko If you actually read the article, there’s very little about a west trying to push Ukraine away from the deal. The NYT even indicates that many western governments were pushing for it. It was Russia’s decision to refuse Ukraine any valid security guarantee that killed it.
@UncleButch2112@DasMeldrichen@real_andrii_x@IAPonomarenko why didn’t you post the rest? Ukraine would have been left without a military and Russia would have been given a veto over any security response should Ukraine be invaded again. Russia just wanted some breathing space to reconstitute and try again

@Mi_Astronauta@BohuslavskaKate The Trump admin’s campaign promise was ending the war. Do you not actually believe in holding elected officials accountable or?
@Mi_Astronauta@BohuslavskaKate So the U.S. is responsible here because one of the President’s mandates was ending the war. And that can only be done by making it clear to the aggressor that they stand to lose more than gain by continuing the war.
@Mi_Astronauta@BohuslavskaKate “Get them talking about peace” is meaningless when there’s no actual change in Russia’s position: total capitulation of Ukraine. There’s not a single person in Ukraine who doesn’t want a real peace; Russia is the sole party who wants to continue aggression.
@Mi_Astronauta@BohuslavskaKate I don’t ever recall Trump saying that he would “end this horrible war unless it happens to be slightly difficult”, I just recall him saying that one of his mandates was to “end this horrible war”
@Mi_Astronauta@BohuslavskaKate I’m answering your question, “Why is this the US responsibility?” Trump really played up his “dealmaking” abilities throughout the election, and one of the mandates that he was elected on was ending Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
