Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

The lyrics are very autobiographical. They reflect the breakdown of Ian Curtis’s marriage to Deborah (they had a young daughter), the pressure of the band’s rising fame, his epilepsy, and his affair with Belgian journalist Annik Honoré.
Ian Curtis died by suicide on May 18, 1980. The song was released as a single in June 1980 (just weeks after his death) and became Joy Division’s biggest hit — essentially serving as an unintentional epitaph for the band and for Ian.
For the final recording, Ian sang in a smoother, crooner style. Factory Records boss Tony Wilson had given him Frank Sinatra records, encouraging him to study that vocal approach.
