The A-team appointed for BestAgent’s critical mission to fix housing, the economy and social mobility.
“If BestAgent works, it could add 1-2% to GDP.” These were the words Rory Sutherland spoke at the end of our first conversation about BestAgent, that led to him investing in the company and joining the Advisory board.
BestAgent has a plan that fixes the housing market’s function, but that’s only the first objective.
The £25bn prize for fixing the housing market.
Each decision to move home typically stimulates around a £25,000 local burst of economic activity. Local spend, local jobs, local benefits. No other consumer decision contributes more to the local economy than deciding to move home.
The number of people moving home is around half what it could be and should be, at around roughly 1 million moves a year. In 2006 there were 1.6m moves. If you factor in the population increase since then, we should be doing around 2 million home moves a year.
That would unlock an extra £25bn a year into local economies, enough to lift the country out of the economic doldrums that the cost of housing and living has dragged us into.
That potential economic boost is the secondary beneficial effect of fixing the housing market’s friction problems.
The added benefit of boosting social mobility.
The tertiary, or third, beneficial effect is the boost to social mobility that comes when moving home is easier. When people can decide to move home with the confidence that it isn’t going to be a huge waste of time and money on a failed move.
That’s what’s at stake and that’s why we’re doing it. It doesn’t only benefit home movers, it benefits the entire economy, jobs, government revenues and society as a whole.
We do not pretend for a moment that BestAgent single-handedly solves all these problems. But if it succeeds, it will be the catalyst that unlocks the activity, jobs and uplift that the country so badly needs.
The reason the advisory board is so important.
We have a saying: “Fix housing, fix everything” because it will very nearly do just that. That’s what’s at stake.
This week BestAgent announced its advisory board members. This extraordinary group of people is remarkable, because of their proven track record of driving change. People who can move the needle in the real world are exceptionally rare. Everyone on the Advisory board is just such an A-player and BestAgent is grateful to them all for agreeing to join, support and help guide this extremely important mission.
The advisory board members are:
Rory Sutherland, Daniel Daggers, Verona Frankish, Simon David, Alex Groundwater, Jo Henry, Nick Armstrong and Andrew Tillard.
The remainder of 2026 will be focused on gathering all the agents who want to participate in this mission together, with the serious ones becoming part of the BestAgent Club.
In the meantime, we hope all agents who are interested in participating will begin by activating their free BackOffice account at https://t.co/RKZ8lmV2PI
