Many might disagree. But I don’t actually think it’s about that.
1. The number ($30m) isn’t in the documents, it’s a hypothetical account based on what commissioners in US sports get. It’s by no means guaranteed.
2. He makes substantially less now (around $5m) but the reality is that he could make a lot more than that given the revenue he brings in and his stranglehold (until now). And he certainly could make more elsewhere.
3. As FIFA president, as long as he gets elected he gets to keep his gig. As commissioner, he’s somebody else’s employee. Which means he can be removed. And he would answer to the new FIFA president
"If we go individual for individual, it's not as if[The United States] is playing France or Spain."
@Marcotti and @LaurensJulien discuss the United States' performance in its loss to Belgium.

@MC_of_A Yeah that’s what’s being reported. All I’m saying is that if your moral compass is so broken that you have to turn to politicians to exert pressure on a pliable FIFA don’t boast about doing so.
Do it on the down low.
@MC_of_A Agreed. Or they could also just let it take its course without getting involved. No sane person would believe it was USSF + Batson who got the ban suspended. Why say you were part of it when you didn’t move the needle?
@GoodRevAJ I’m with you. I would keep him. But a national team isn’t like a club side… it’s going to be far more subject to national sentiment, politics, etc
@MooreJonD@espnpodcasts Garrincha? That was a long time before I was even born, not sure what relevance that has today. Cristiano was also wrong and we called it out. But the start of a tournament is a very different context than in the middle of knockouts.
"They've made a mockery of this World Cup. ... I don't know how [Gianni Infantino] can look at himself in the mirror and think, 'Yeah I did the right thing here, it's okay.' ... You can not change rules halfway through a tournament."
On the latest episode of The Gab & Juls Show, @Marcotti and @LaurensJulien discuss the controversy surrounding Folarin Balogun's availability against Belgium.
"It looks like a WWE-kind of move. ... I don't understand how VAR didn't intervene. ... I think it's a huge mistake made here, one that England got away with."
On the latest Gab and Juls Show, @Marcotti and @LaurensJulien share their thoughts on the controversial penalty shout in England's match against Ghana 👀
