Artists Lena and Eldar visited Madeira last week and worked with our Megafauna team for a new art/science collaboration. Brainstorming, data collection and sperm whale sightings during fieldwork! We have great expectations for this collaboration -- stay tuned!

#DeepOmics just won a MARE-Évora Mini Grant! Led by Soraia Vieira, researcher at MARE-UÉvora, and joined by Paola Parretti at MARE-Madeira, this project will explore the biodiversity of deep-sea sediments. Stay tuned for updates!

Congratulations, Dr. Mieke Weyn! Mieke successfully defended her thesis on the movements and social behaviors of short-finned pilot whales in the North Atlantic. Her work aids science and conservation (including a potentially important corridor between Madeira and the Canaries!)

New project: #HydroPulse has kicked off!

From June 22 to 23, we were in Athens at HydroPulse's kick-off meeting. Working with our partners across Europe, this project will create novel technologies to help #hydropower plants: (+)

- Protect #biodiversity and improve #fish migration (>40%);
- Reduce noise #pollution and river erosion;
- Respond better to climate change and the needs of local #communities.
