"Feminine clothing as a first aid to comedy has its drawbacks," according to Buster Keaton. "If the skirts are too narrow, you may get laughs and take a chance on breaking your neck; if they're too wide, you can do any sort of acrobatic trick and still fall short of comedy,"
Buster Keaton in Moonshine (1918). To create the illusion of an army of men emerging from a single car, half the camera lens was taped, splitting the car down the middle. Men walked straight through the vehicle entering through one passenger door and coming out through the other. Then the film was rewound and with the other side of the camera lens covered, the opposite side of the car (with the door closed) was filmed. Buster removed the shocks to stop the car from bouncing from the weight of the passengers so that it would all look seamless.
