JERSEY JAILED THE MAN WHO TRIED TO SAVE ITS CHILDREN

Stuart Syvret @StuartSyvret was Jersey's Health Minister. In 2007 he started asking uncomfortable questions about what was happening to children in the island's care homes. He said he was sacked for whistleblowing. Jersey said he was sacked for his behaviour.

That's the kind of framing you get when the institution decides the story.

Syvret had been collecting his own evidence since 2006. In May 2008 he made a formal complaint to police claiming senior civil servants had perverted the course of justice by covering up abuse in care homes.

So what happened to him? His house was raided. His computers and papers were taken. He was hit with a superinjunction, a secret gag order that was later exposed by UK Parliament, and imprisoned three times in connection with his efforts to expose what he described as horrific crimes across the island.

The Independent Jersey Care Inquiry eventually confirmed that children in care on the island endured 553 offences between 1947 and 2004. Most occurred at the notorious Haut de la Garenne children's home. The inquiry concluded that survivors were left with devastating and life-long consequences.

A constant theme in the inquiry report was the "Jersey Way" - a culture of ignoring and downplaying uncomfortable issues, which allowed abuse to continue without full investigation.

One UK judge called Syvret "a thorn in the side of the Jersey establishment." A Liberal Democrat MP accused Jersey's judiciary of misusing the Data Protection Act to silence critics.

Syvret eventually left Jersey fearing for his life, having received death threats for years. He ended up in an undisclosed location in the United States.

His conclusion, years later: the obstructions to the original police investigation were "astonishing." And those who blew the whistle paid the price while the system stayed intact.

Think about that. The man who raised the alarm about child abuse on a British Crown Dependency got jailed, gagged, and exiled.

What is becoming increasingly clear is that Ireland somehow covertly agreed with the U.K. to impose significant and devastating burdens on its citizens, that Ireland’s domestic laws simply did not authorize.

And that is why I was asked by my own counsel to allow the fabricated Senan Allen Report about me to remain on the official Parliamentary record, because I was “getting on in years” - already having waited for 7 years which included a 2 year and 9 month wait for a sham mediation conference to take place.

Fourteen people attended the mediation conference for the parliamentary body and ALL had their identities shielded by a mediator (who later joined the defendant in threatening me with an injunction in breach of the Protected Disclosures Act - just to increase “the menace”.). The threat was retracted then demonstrating some level of “consciousness of wrongdoing”.

My counsel knew Allen’s report was fabricated and referred to me as independent minded with a good legal brain; so it’s astonishing that he might come to the conclusion that I would actively assist 18 people wedded to sustaining a false Parliamentary record.

I now believe that those present (not just in opposition) were subject to disabling conflicts of interest, having very close working relationships with the banks that had been concealing enormous collateral shortfalls for many years.

Everything is connected. There are tens of thousands of victims - many working admirably and with much agency.

🚨 BREAKING: Keir Starmer threatens mandatory ID checks to use mobile phones

"Protecting children online is vital, but these are outrageous plans that will fail to address the underlying causes of online harm. This will only result in population-wide ID checks for all of us to use our phones, tablets and laptops.

"Put simply, the Labour Government is threatening ID checks for the internet. No one in a democracy should need to show their passport just to get online.

THE GOVERNMENT LOST £10 BILLION TO FRAUD AND TOLD THREE MILLION WORKERS THERE WAS NOTHING FOR THEM

The UK went into lockdown. The government launched furlough. Rishi Sunak called it unprecedented support for unprecedented times.

Three million workers got absolutely nothing.

Self-employed people who took a portion of income as dividends. Freelancers who had recently switched jobs. Directors of small limited companies. People who paid their taxes and simply did not fit the right box on the right form.

They were not criminals. They were not lazy. They just fell through a gap that the government deliberately refused to close.

@ExcludedUK formed almost overnight. Forty-five thousand members. An All-Party Parliamentary Group. Meetings with MPs. Letters. Petitions. Press coverage.

The government's answer every single time: including you would cost too much and create a fraud risk..

Let that land.

The fraud risk argument. From the same government that ran a VIP PPE lane so politically connected individuals could bypass normal procurement entirely.

The High Court later ruled that lane unlawful. By that point, nearly £9 billion had been spent on PPE, much of it unusable. Matt Hancock used his personal email to refer a supplier who had never previously sold medical equipment to the NHS. That supplier landed a £25 million contract on the same day the email was sent.

Furlough itself paid out £1.5 billion to employers who would not have cut a single job without it. A further £3.5 billion went to outright fraudulent claims. Total pandemic fraud losses could reach £10.8 billion according to @BylineTimes.

@GoodLawProject fought through the courts to get even the basic list of VIP lane recipients published. The government resisted for years. When the list finally came out it named 51 companies. New evidence from the Covid Inquiry suggests at least 20 more politically connected suppliers received contracts worth £1 billion through the same route.

Meanwhile @ExcludedUK has documented over 40 suicides and hundreds of attempted suicides directly linked to the financial devastation of being excluded. Members took out bounce back loans to survive. Those loans did not disappear when the pandemic ended.

The criteria for excluding 3 million workers never changed.

The VIP lane never excluded anyone with the right contacts.

Six years on @ExcludedUK is still calling for a public apology, financial recognition, and a guarantee this never happens again. The government has not apologised. Nobody has been held to account for the lane. The excluded are still waiting.

That is the full picture of how this government managed a national emergency.
