Welcome, President @vonderleyen, to the Black Sea shore!

This region is of strategic importance for European & Euro-Atlantic security and Romania plays its responsible role as a littoral EU member state & a NATO Ally on the Eastern Flank.

Our joint visit here today also reflects the geostrategic importance of the Port of Constanta, as a commercial and military logistics hub, but also in the future reconstruction efforts of Ukraine.

Today is equally important for emphasising the importance of operationalizing the Black Sea Maritime Security Hub, as part of the EU Black Sea Strategy.

Our interest in making the best use of European resources, including through the #Readiness2030 Plan & the SAFE instrument, for expanding our military capabilities, modernizing our defense industry and increasing military mobility. EU-NATO complementarity is essential in this endeavour.

Today I had in-depth phone discussion with President @ZelenskyyUA. I presented him my view, that we need a comprehensive & lasting peace in Ukraine, so that Russia’s daily atrocities stop.

Romania supports the efforts of President Trump to reach a solution.

An agreement must be just, long-lasting and sustainable.

Peace must be reached with Ukraine at the negotiation table.

Romania supports the sovereignity, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

As neighbor and partner, Romania will continue to stand with Ukraine in all efforts to reach a just peace for the people of Ukraine.

The security of Ukraine is closely linked with the security of the Black Sea & Europe ‘s security.

I accepted President @ZelenskyyUA invitation to pay a visit to Kyiv this autumn.

Today’s Coalition of the Willing and European Council videoconferences addressed the results of last evening’s important talks in Washington on Ukraine’s security.

Key points I made:
•President Trump’s involvement in a Ukraine peace deal is essential — any peace must be just and durable. Europe’s role is equally essential.
•Transatlantic coordination remains our strongest asset to deter Russia’s aggression.
•Russia must stop killing civilians if it is serious about peace.
•Sanctions need to stay in place and even intensify until peace is achieved.
•We must ensure the immediate return of all abducted Ukrainian children — Romania will keep supporting this effort.
•Romania will contribute to strong security guarantees for Ukraine, to be implemented through close cooperation between Europe and the US — this is an investment in Europe’s security, not just Ukraine’s.
•A peaceful Ukraine also strengthens Romania’s security and benefits our neighbor, R. Moldova.

✅ ⁠continuarea sprijinului activ la nivel european față de Republica Moldova;
✅ ⁠coordonarea instrumentelor europene pentru a răspunde atacurilor hibride, inclusiv împotriva proceselor democratice;
✅ ⁠rolul consistent al 🇷🇴 României în promovarea parcursului european al 🇲🇩 Republicii Moldova;

On this first day in office as Romanian foreign minister, I find it poignant to celebrate the UN International Day of Women in Diplomacy. I am looking forward to work with all my colleagues in the ministry at headquarters and abroad as well as with our international partners. I am thrilled many among them are women. Being a woman and a diplomat is not a special privilege, it is a reflection of the world. It is also an achievement for many women that bring their contribution and vision in a field that is both difficult and demanding. I am pleased to say that @MAERomania is a champion in the field. At our embassies and consulates as well as at our headquarters hundreds of women diplomats are part of the team and this is also reflected at leadership level. Moved by their achievements and much looking forward to encourage women in diplomacy!
