Something I've noticed about the ships I truly brainrot over is that I'm equally obsessed with both characters. I enjoy a lot of ships, but I usually end up loving one chara more than the other. The real ship psychosis starts when both have me on the verge of a mental breakdown.

But also, it depends on the amount of time you are willing/capable of allocating a day for writing. Prior knowledge of your own story helps, as in, build a base for your chapters. Have notes before diving in. Write without giving a thought, edit after.
