In one of the most shameless displays of fake piety in world history, Donald Trump is kicking off a week-long “America Reads the Bible” event from the White House, acting as if he’s leading some grand national spiritual revival.

This is the same Donald Trump who once stood in front of a church holding up a Bible like he was selling used cars. The same man who couldn’t name a single favorite Bible verse when asked. The same man who skipped Easter services to rage about his enemies and has repeatedly compared himself to Jesus Christ.

His spiritual advisor Paula White has even told followers that saying “no” to Trump is the same as saying “no” to God. We think Trump, who hasn’t given a tinker’s damn about religion or spirituality a day in his life, is starting to believe the hype. Maybe if he plays it right, people really will start to see him as infallible.

This is Trump’s dangerous megalomania fully metastasized into full-blown messianism – he is starting to sees himself as some divinely chosen figure rather than a twice-impeached, convicted felon, and con man.

One that can command unstinting loyalty while he cuts aid to the poor and taxes on the rich, and invades sovereign nations on a whim.

We can hear it now. Nothing says “devout Christian” like Trump stumbling through Bible verses and making more gaffes like “Two Corinthians.” It should be a hoot on one level.

Make no mistake, this grotesque mix of blasphemy, hypocrisy, and narcissistic delusion putting Christianity into political service for the MAGA movement that is all about one man, and it sure isn’t Jesus.

Whether you are a person of faith or not, Trump’s hijacking of religion in an attempt to boost his poll numbers will be a disgusting spectacle to behold.
