Trump said something outside a press gaggle that I don’t think enough people caught.

A reporter called him out on the corruption. He gave three responses.

1. I have the right to do it.
2. He’s not stealing that much. A billion or two billion dollars. Not that much money. Classic Trump.
3. People don’t care.

That’s the permission structure. Our collective apathy is what they’re using to justify everything happening in Washington right now.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the extraordinary outbursts of the President of the United States against female journalists... well, actually against journalists in general and journalism. But it feels like he saves his most childlike behavior and irrational language for female reporters, calling them all kinds of names that kids in kindergarten are given times out for. It’s stunning to me to witness such behavior from any leader, any CEO, any person of influence or importance. I’ve never witnessed someone like this raging, this weekend with @meetthepress host @kwelkernbc, just last week in the Oval Office with @cnn’s @kaitlancollins, calling women stupid or piggy, telling them to “smile”, calling them darling, demeaning their credibility. Every good man should denounce this behavior. Every person should be able to stand up for their colleagues and say “No more.”

Imagine this man screaming like this at your daughter, your wife, your sister, your mother... would you stand for it? No, you wouldn’t! And neither should any of us. It’s unacceptable and undignified. Period. End of story.

JD Vance took time this week to explain to the British that the murder of 18-year-old student Henry Nowak was actually about immigration.

Justice Secretary David Lammy apparently rang Vance to set the record straight. “You’re wrong about this,” Lammy told him. Which must have been an uncomfortable conversation for a vice-president who has built an entire political career on being confidently incorrect about things happening in other people’s countries.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, England’s football squad was busy preparing for the World Cup in Kansas City, Missouri. Nine people were shot near England’s planned training facility and hotel on Troost Avenue at four in the morning. Police arrived to find a large crowd scattering. A second shooting the same evening, just miles away on Troost Avenue, left two people dead. 

The Kansas City Police were quick to reassure everyone that the incident “did not occur near a World Cup venue or anything else World Cup-related.”  Which is technically true, in the same way that a house fire next door isn’t technically in your living room.

The Americans are hosting a World Cup. They have strong opinions about immigration and British crime statistics. They would just like everyone to ignore the bit where nine people get shot near the visiting team’s hotel before breakfast.

They didn't kill the cancer. They told it to go home.

A team of Korean scientists at KAIST just pulled off something that sounds like science fiction.

Instead of nuking colon cancer cells with chemo or radiation, they convinced them to turn back into normal, healthy colon cells.

No killing. No collateral damage. Just a quiet U-turn at the cellular level.

Here's how it works.

Led by Professor Kwang-Hyun Cho at the Department of Bio and Brain Engineering, the team built a "digital twin" of the gene network that controls how a normal cell becomes cancerous.

They ran simulations. They hunted for the exact moment a healthy cell flips into a malignant one.

Then they found the switches.

Three master regulator genes — MYB, HDAC2, and FOXA2 — were the keys to the whole transformation.
Flip those switches back, and the cancer cell stops behaving like a cancer cell. It starts looking and acting like a normal enterocyte, the kind of cell that lines a healthy intestine.

No gene editing. No permanent rewiring. Just the body's own natural signals, used in reverse.

The team confirmed it in molecular experiments, cellular experiments, and animal studies. The malignant cells stopped multiplying out of control and went back to doing their actual job.

The research has already been handed off to a company called BioRevert Inc. to develop into real-world treatments.

This isn't a cure tomorrow. But it rewrites the entire playbook for how we think about cancer.

You don't always have to destroy the enemy.

Sometimes you just have to remind it who it used to be.

The end of HIV infections may be closer than we think.

Scientists cut HIV out of immune cells using CRISPR.

And the cells stayed HIV-free even after re-exposure. A cure could finally be within reach.

In a groundbreaking advance, scientists at Temple University have successfully used CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing to eliminate HIV-1 DNA from the genomes of human immune cells.

Unlike existing treatments that suppress the virus, this method completely removes the genetic blueprint of HIV from infected T-cells.
