We ran this experiment in 1974. Nixon signed permanent DST in Dec 1973 during the oil crisis. Approval was 79%. Everyone loved the idea of more evening sun.

It went into effect less than a month later, moving the clocks from Standard Time to DST on Jan 6 1974. This pushed sunrise to after 8:30am. Kids were waiting for school buses in pitch black. Florida blamed dark mornings for the deaths of schoolchildren.

By February, approval was already down to 42%. Congress repealed it 383-16 before Fall even arrived.

Everyone loves this in July, but no one wants this in January.
