*He then walks off down the road to the beach.*

*Jayce stands still and curses under his breath. He yanks his backpack off one shoulder, fumbling through it until his fingers catch his notebook. He pulls a page free with a rip, crushes it into a ball, and throws it at the back of Valya's head.*

*He aggressively grabs his books, shoves them into his bag, and swings the strap over his shoulder.*

*Viktor remains silent, just watching Jayce stare out at the water with such a remorseful expression. He feels the guilt swallow him up, biting his lip to figure out what to do or say.*

@h20vik I took away his chance to say no to what I was doing. It was so unfair to him, my research wouldn't even exist without him.

Its hard to say out loud, to admit I hurt him. Thats uh why I pulled out the flask.

*Jayce looks back down at his book, his thumb absentmindedly rubbing against the edge of the first page. He stays lost in his own head for awhile before reaching down to rummage through his backpack.*

@h20vik At the time I thought I was making the right choice. I would complete my research and figure out the logistics of publishing, then bring the plan to him when I was ready.

But to do that I kept him in the dark. I... lied to him.

When he finally speaks, his voice drops to a murmur.*
