@Lyle_Goldstein Im not against the idea of trading for Skubal but it’s not easy. He’s coming back from injury and you get him for 2-3 months. I’d be okay with a Gilbert or Castillo for him but I don’t think the Tigers are interested. It’s far too much risk for one shot (where tigers say yes)
@Lyle_Goldstein In 2024 the Mariners had 4 of these pitchers miss significant time to injury and almost all of these players have a history of injury at some point. I know it’s cliché but, baseball finds a way is generally true so in all likelihood this won’t be an issue.
@MarinersSteve It’s a cost benefit analysis and as much as I’d love to go all in for Skubal there has to be a reasonable assessment of what he can give for 2 months is worth. This is why I doubt the Mariners will even legitimately explore it
@MarinersSteve I think Kirby is a better pitcher right now and you’re giving up an extra year compared to Gilbert which is significant. It’s only okay to give up 2 years of Kirby if you actually get to the World Series which is not a guarantee with the injury or in general.
Obviously, none of this takes away from the injury challenges that multiple everyday players have had so far this season but, if you’re truly defending a division title, you have to be able to weather those challenges and not shoot yourself in the foot on top of it
The constant platooning, marriage to analytics, and trying to pull things like a “piggyback” off are just evidence to me of them trying to be the smartest one in the room and I just don’t think that they are. Lean into your identity and don’t try to be what you’re not.

This seemingly does not bode well for Donovan though. Seems like the team is going to need to be in survival mode till June or July. If they can make it there and finally have everyone healthy and right though, they’ll be a scary team.
With Cole Young and now Colt Emerson on the team and a slew of exciting prospects likely still to come over the next 12 months, the future is now and it’s an exciting one.
Bryce Miller will make his season debut next week in Houston, leaving the Mariners with two options after his first start: a six-man rotation or piggybacking Miller with Luis Castillo.

@thejagepage@TyDaneGonzalez@BenRanieri10 Do you think that Muñoz’s struggles so far this season have been more mental, mechanical, or simply a product of fatigue? Do you trust him to right the ship or should the Mariners be seeking improvements for the closer role internally or externally before the end of the season?
