A fabulous movie shows how our Marine Geological Samples Lab describes, stores, and preserves the priceless geological samples to ensure it will be useful for decades to come. From Ship to Shore: Processing Geological Samples | Nautilus Live https://t.co/7FZEQciqiV via @YouTube
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Rob Pockalny as he beings his tenure as the new Associate Dean, Academic & Student Affairs at @universityofri#URIGSO. Most recently an associate marine research scientist at GSO, he has been with the GSO community since 1985.
#Geological oceanographers with a focus on coastal hazards, coastal change, and coastal processes (including sea level change, sediment transport, erosion and deposition, human coastal modification, seafloor morphological change, continental margin tectonics, and geodesy).
Last week grad students and Assistant Curator Danielle Cares discovered this fossilized shark tooth in a sample of Mn nodules from @EVNautilus expedition NA141 to #JohnstonAtoll ! The tooth is believed to have belonged to the extinct megalodon🦈

Thanks @GovDanMcKee for joining me in the core refrigerator at @URIGSO's Marine Geological Samples Repository. It was great to share the fantastic science happening here and discuss the importance of investing in infrastructure to support future deep sea research.
New Cores! After some late Friday afternoon drama, Lynne and Dan from the RV Endeavor crew saved the day and got Puerto Rico Trench sediment cores safely cooling. #NSFfunded@URIGSO

An earthquake swarm with over 10,000 earthquakes in the past 7 days was detected in Iceland. Historical volcanic eruption records, seismic monitoring, and geodetic observations together may forecast a volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
An Earthquake swarm is underway in Iceland, with over 10.000 earthquakes detected in the past 7 days, hinting that the region could head for an eruption https://t.co/b11AuG0Vvq
Five scientists from #URIGSO joined the year-long #MOSAiCExpedition in the #Arctic to collect data on the region's ocean, ice, and atmosphere. Read the latest issue of 'Aboard GSO' to learn about the harsh conditions & challenges they faced ❄️⬇️
