@hysp_hi For the greyscale method, I usually use the 'Color' blending mode, which lets you color on a greyscale, I also use gradient maps, Here are the colors I usually use for it!^^
You can just merge from canvas, duplicate, clip, set the gradiant map and lower opacity if needed
