HISTORIC MILESTONE FOR KENYA’S MARITIME SECTOR
Today in Mombasa, at the 11th Our Ocean Conference, we officially signed a landmark MoU with the Republic of Korea for the mutual recognition of seafarers’ Certificates of Competency (CoC), aligned with STCW standards.
This agreement is a massive game changer for our youth and the growth of our Maritime Sector, granting qualified Kenyan seafarers the right to serve aboard Korean flagged vessels, unlocking direct access to one of the world's most advanced shipping economies.
By expanding professional mobility and creating greater entry into international labor markets, this pact will significantly boost remittances and build sustainable global careers for our young professionals. Further deepening bilateral cooperation in maritime education, training, and knowledge exchange between our two nations.
