#ProjectHailMary reminds one of why they love movies. A breathtaking, deeply human and surprisingly hilarious sci-fi epic anchored by one of the most beautifully unusual friendships put on screen. The scale is massive, but it never loses its intimacy. Every moment of isolation, fear and hope lands with real weight. Ryan Gosling is phenomenal here, carrying what’s essentially a one-man show with humor and vulnerability. He makes the spectacle feel personal and the stakes genuinely urgent. The bond between him and Rocky is the film’s emotional core, and it’s handled with so much sincerity.

The visuals are stunning, some of the most striking space sequences, elevated by Daniel Pemberton’s soaring, otherworldly score. The 2hr 30min runtime is felt but it doesn’t drag, Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s vision comes together seamlessly in a film that feels as awe-inspiring as it is heartfelt. ‘PROJECT HAIL MARY’ isn’t just about survival - it’s about choosing to trust, to help, to care. No borders, no prejudice, just two beings working together to save their worlds.

Deeply embarrassing that the first Star Wars show to release with an actual writers room (not the hivemind stuff with Jon F. & Mando or small consulting Tony got with Andor) is not given a chance to come back for a second season.

The show found an audience but the audience wasn’t big enough to justify making a second season according to the article. The fact that these shows have to be monumental cultural hits to get the chance to continue is a problem we still need to fix in this industry.
