NB: Due to Twitter's format, I can't keep the original metre of St. Jacob.
He does miracles, and He endures suffering. Things exalted and things lowly are His, the one Only-Begotten’s, who is not understood, not translated, not investigated, not assigned, not examined, not spoken, to whom, as well as to the Father with His Holy Spirit, be glory always
For Christ is not divided into two: God is one in truth, because He became human in truth in His incarnation from Mary, as it is written, “the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us.”
- Letter 14, to Mar Bassus Monastery
As for those who count and reckon natures after the union and who say and make known their characteristics and their properties, these too the Church makes strangers to its fellowship.
-Letter 14, to Mar Bassus Monastery
For a blessing was promised to the nations [that would come] from the seed of Abraham: his seed is Christ in the incarnation from the Virgin, who is the daughter of David, daughter of Abraham, she who is confessed to be the Theotokos.
-Letter 14, to Mar Bassus Monastery
As for those who say that He did not become flesh from the Virgin, but He was seen, from himself and about himself, in an appearance, in a likeness, and in a form, these the congregation full of the truth of the Only-Begotten anathematizes.
-Letter 14, to Mar Bassus Monastery
As for those who divide that one indivisible Christ into two, who attribute to Him numbers and names, who proclaim God the Word and add the human who was assumed, these the Church anathematizes.
-Letter 14, to Mar Bassus Monastery
To Him the Church, at the time of the mysteries, directs the words of the seraphim when she extends to Him, “Holy!” just as [it does] to His Father. In addition to [saying] “one holy Father,” the Church proclaims “one holy Son.”
-Letter 14, to Mar Bassus Monastery
They [Holy Apostles] were expecting the Spirit who would come from the Father and teach them clearly the story of the Son.
Before some days the Cross of sufferings had scattered them but the Ascension of the Son to the heaven gathered them.
- Homily on Pentecost
To the Mountain of Olives He gathered the Church for which He had died so that she might see Him there as He was taken up to His exalted place.
-Homily on the Ascension
For the Church, the Virgin, is betrothed to the one OnlyBegotten, to the one “who was and is,” Jesus Christ, that one who is “yesterday, today, and forever," to the one from the Trinity who became flesh, to the eternal Son, whose name existed before the sun
-Mar Bassus Monastery
His incarnation came about without sin, He is confessed in the holy books as “son of David, son of Abraham.” For it is only the Only-Begotten who was born two births: one from the Father... and one from Mary by flesh, as it is written,
-Letter 14, to Mar Bassus Monastery
I repeat again: Anathematized are Nestorius and Eutyches and all who follow their teaching of wickedness, Diodore, Theodore, Theodoret, and anyone who reads their books so as to follow their teachings
-Letter14, to Mar Bassus Monastery
Just as it is believed that all the Apostles drank from one Spirit, it is also true that all the heretics have become intoxicated from the poison of that first serpent, so that they divide the one Only-Begotten of God into two.
-Letter to Mar Bassus Monastery
He brought about triumph in weakness which was full of sufferings and by His wounds He brought back the captivity that had been led off.
- Homily on the Resurrection
The slaughtered King had risen with power from the tomb and perdition succumbed, and it did not stand before Him when He was coming out.
- Homily on the Resurrection
From the place of sufferings your voice looked forth in a mighty way, and caused alarm to the powers of darkness that were flourishing.
- Homily on the Resurrection
You skillfully conquered the region of death when it had confined you because through weakness you uprooted Sheol1 which was closed up.
- Homily on the Resurrection
The Only-Begotten of the Father, to whom both mountains belong, has driven the crucifiers from both of them, and has established you to be heirs for Golgotha and Sinai, and for you to love and cherish the glorious presence of the Father and the Cross of the Son
To Monks of Sinai
He who went down to Mount Sinai with His Father was crucified on Golgotha for the sake of the salvation of the world. Because the two covenants, old and new, belong to the Son, because of this, two mountains have become celebrated through Him.
- Letter to the Monks of Sinai
You have perceived with your souls, which are near to God, that by the Only-Begotten both mountains have become celebrated, one by the written Law and one by the all-accomplishing Cross.
- Letter to the Monks of Sinai
