Just to remind everyone that if Indiana were ceded these counties we’d immediately have to cough up a net $2 bill a year to replace the flow of taxes from Chicagoland to these places.
And we’d immediately join WV and MI at the bottom of the economic and education barrell.
.@GovPritzker's data center pause suspends the protections that guarantee wages and benefits for Illinois union workers. Those data centers will still be built — just in Indiana and Ohio, without our workers or clean energy standards. Pause the pause https://t.co/KFiAD3Xrkf
After Michael Jordan scored a career-high 69 points in one game, Stacey King said:
“I'll always remember this as the night that Michael Jordan and I combined to score 70 points"
Amazing sense of humor. Stacey, you will be missed so much.
This isn’t a higher bar for data centers. Given competition, it’s effectively a barrier. These objections are based on outdated assumptions. It’s like the More Perfect Union propagandists are now governing. Populism may be politically useful, but will prove economically harmful.
Repeating what I posted Friday:
Tech companies won't waste time with us given these new uncertainties. Investment will flow to more receptive states. Further, concerns about data centers are largely overstated. Water is recycled in closed loop system and tech firms are now building and financing their own power.
Unfortunately, this is pandering to a very progressive and uninformed electorate and will cost the state in potential jobs, investment and tax revenue.
It is also extremely short sighted. If we want new and cleaner power generation, we should welcome tech firms investing in data centers with open arms. Much better for them to finance the new buildout of solar, battery storage and potentially nuclear - as they have pledged to do - than have ratepayers do so.
And as the AI models and compute infrastructure get more efficient, it's possible that in the future data centers will end up having excess power (due to efficiency gains) that can go to the rest of grid - driving down longer-term consumer energy inflation.
At a minimum, we’d be the beneficiaries of key infrastructure upgrades and rising local tax revenue longer term.
@JCowleyHoops@MarkPotash Was a season ticket holder from ‘86 to ‘01. Seen him come in as a rook and grow with the team. Was part of our first 3 championships and contributed off the bench after a stellar run at OK. Transitioned nicely to the booth and enjoyed the telecast. RIP
What did Michael Jordan think about 3-point shooting?
“My 3-point shooting is something that I don’t want to excel at, because it takes away from all phases of my game. My game is a fake, drive to the hole, penetrate, dish off, dunk, whatever, and when you have that mentality, as I found out in the first game, of making threes, you don’t go to the hole as much. You go to the 3-point line and you start sitting there waiting for someone to find you. And that’s not my mentality, and I don’t want to create that because it takes away from my other parts of my game.”
Nope. The NFL should strip their branding and force them to be called the Hammond Bears or the Indiana Bears.
Don't profit from our city while running away from it for a tax break.
@Section344Lions Legacy, tradition, pride matter . But a AH stadium would print money. Check median household income for cities in the region area then check Illinois, specifically north & west suburbs. Until there’s shovels I don’t believe the Indiana plan.
@Ecnerwal23@thipsher85 Just the total surrounding area of stadium in AH would be nuts money wise. The top 2 or 3 median household incomes for region cities would be in the 60’s on Illinois list. And those are very small municipalities. Most of Illinois top 100 are in very close proximity to AH.
.@GovPritzker's data center tax credit pause is a will cost IL workers & gut the tax revenue that funds schools & helps homeowners save on property taxes. It doesn't help consumers. It just sends jobs & 💸 to other states. Pause the pause https://t.co/dvFIAsbHYC
@North2North Colin not from here . Doesn’t know the pride, tradition and legacy. Sure the region is part of Chicagoland, it’s not Illinois. Hell, takes me 15 minutes just to get out of Plainfield 😂
My one Bears take is that basically every team that has left its city center is worse off for it. I think the Jets and Giants playing in Jersey leaves them more disconnected from the city/region than they should be. Same with SF. You just get less juice, unfortunately.
@clayharbs82 I agree Clay. Ownership will see how damaging this ends up being for the brand because it will be damaged. Not Browns moving to Baltimore or Colts moving to Indy but there will be pissed Bears fans if they move forward.
