We want to thank @Incrediwear for providing our students with compression wear, including the sleeves. Our Overwatch 2 captain, Zachery Simpkins, explains why he enjoys the arm sleeves in particular. #PioNation#PioneersPersevere
@BigBandTenor@CynicalPublius@Incrediwear I had a painful and inflamed knee for 3 years. I tried every knee brace/support. Once I found and used Incrediwear, I could feel the swelling go down and my knee popping back into alignment.
You’ve been icing injuries your whole life, but what if that’s actually slowing your recovery?
For years, the go-to advice has been R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation).
This has been debunked and outdated for 20 years
Ice reduces blood flow.
It numbs pain and constricts blood vessels.
Healing depends on blood flow while getting oxygen and nutrients to reach the damaged tissue.
When you cut off blood supply with ice, you also slow down the healing response
Inflammation is NOT the enemy; it’s a necessary part of the natural healing process.
Without inflammation, you cannot heal
Ice blocks inflammatory signals that tell your body to send in repair cells.
You might feel less pain temporarily, but behind the scenes, your body is struggling to heal.
Ever wonder why there is swelling after an injury?
It’s because your immune system is flooding the area with what's needed to repair the damage (not gonna bore you with a biology lesson)
Ice delays this process, leading to slower and weaker tissue repair.
When is ice actually useful?
Nerve-related injuries.
Extreme pain. There is evidence that extreme pain signals can also delay the healing response
Credit where credit is due; ice is great for pain and its cheap
Sports specific. Sometimes you need to get out of pain to be able to play sooner than the injury is ready to (this is a conversation for a different day) so healing is ignored
Outside of these cases, there are better ways to recover.
Bottom line: Ice is NOT a recovery tool.
It’s a pain management tool.
If you actually want to heal faster you need to stop icing everything.
Inflammation is your body’s way of fixing itself
Get out of your body's way
So if ice isn’t the answer, what is? Heat exposure
Heat does everything ice can’t
I'll be doing another long form thread on heat this week on Wednesday
Riley Moss is OUT for today’s game against the Colts. But good sign of progress - he’s out here getting an early workout in before other guys hit the field.
