Self-inflicted by the Giants. He was a terrible 3B and the Red Sox wanted to move him to 1B, and he bucked at that. That is why he was available in the first place. Now they have a fat, angry 1B/DH making an AAV of over $30 million for a bunch of years.

I am sure the Athletic will either blame the third base coach or the manager, for the Giants woes.

I do not know if he is better than Murphy, but Bart has been better a better hitter in his career than Murphy has, 2024-2026. That is just fact. The reason given is that Murphy has been hurt (for 3 years?); well okay, we will see. One universal truth is that catchers degrade very quickly after age 30, and Murphy reached 30 at the end of the 2024 season, is almost 32.

Defense? Murphy won a gold glove in 2021; that is a lifetime ago, and he was last nominated (meaning top 3 in the league) in 2022. Nothing https://t.co/2VSF9fvXKx is pretty reasonable to assume his defense has degraded over time, as his offense has.

Sean Murphy is 2026 is not nearly Sean Murphy of 2021.
