Phang: “Per his lawyer, Blanche has produced to the judge the unredacted handwritten FBI interview notes of a victim who alleges sexual & physical abuse by Felon Trump.”
She actually made it happen! Badass.
I do not think that is Dylan looking reflective at all....that is not such a look from him....it is a posed something else which I won't try to define. A put-on look to the sky,;his eyes are closed too...
Bob Dylan looking deeply reflective on a muddy New York City street back in 1983. Photographer Lynn Goldsmith caught this incredible, moody portrait right around the time Dylan was working on his Infidels album. What is your favorite track from his 1980s catalog?
Any chance you could share those notes?...I will be discussing this great story in my upcoming LIFELONG LEARNING class...to bring them you and a recent lecture would be wonderful and they would love it, I know...
Speaking of Coney Island, I’m wrapping up lecture notes on Delmore Schwartz’s “In Dreams Begin Responsibilities” for tomorrow and looking forward to thinking aloud about dreams, Dostoevsky, Dante, Beckett and fiction.
I do not think the conclusion follows....the 'modern, accessible " style is now as dated as much older poetry in English; she did not do a great Dante.....we are still reading Dante in newer cooler language...Ciardi's translation is still in mass market, still readable.
One thing I think about often is how in the 1950s, Dorothy Sayers’ translation of the Divine Comedy was known as “the people’s Dante” because it was written in a modern, accessible style beloved by millions. Because we’ve largely stopped teaching poetry, few can now read it.
An anecdote: When I was a philosophy grad student, I worked at a small grocery store. One time, I was talking to a coworker and said something like, “Well, that’s just objectively true, right?”
She replied sarcastically: “You study philosophy and you believe in objective truth? Good luck with that!” She really seemed to think I couldn’t possibly believe in something so outlandish as objective truth.
The moral of this story is that I have no idea what the average person thinks philosophy is.
Wittgenstein, of course, of course even if he ignored and scorned me....he wouldn't talk to me probably but if I could listen to him talking to whoever....
On the Cornell 7 and Jane Doe: I don't know if anyone reads or follows LA Magazine? I don't.
But they have been intensely covering the situation, and failed to publicly disclosed what is a glaring conflict of interest, while promising a "bombshell" to come.
The attorney for Winston Lee, one of the Cornell 7 who is from a very prominent and wealthy South Korean family (his grandfather is a former prime minister), has hired Teny Geragos, a high profile attorney, to represent him.
The co-owner of LA Magazine is Mark Geragos, Teny's dad. Their relationship has not been publicly disclosed as a conflict of interest in their coverage. One of the LA Magazine reporters is promising a "bombshell" to discredit Jane Doe. Just making you all aware.
H/t to David Denney for bringing this to my attention.
Today, @SenatorShaheen and six bipartisan senators issued a statement regarding the legality of Russian diesel fuel imports to the United States.

What we called a 'selling' blurb in publishing. Knausgaard much more known and liked than Houeelbecq. Who is disliked a lot by many good readers. So, he's "already great"--jump aboard. And, If you haven't been reading this already great writer, "keep abreast" with this new one.
Alexander Chee's brilliant first novel was first published 25 years ago. I was honored to write an introduction for the anniversary edition, & I’m grateful to @NewYorker for publishing it today. https://t.co/fr79DKWe3S

Nobel Lit Prize odds...
I don't exactly know how they price this market unless there are leaks but it's v exciting to see Murakami and Pynchon so high today...
