@Rush77289890@QueerMajority @RVeradonir I was a psychology of language professor. It irks me to no end when people are irked by anything less than academic level literary precision.
Encourage people to understand who they are, before what they mean, let alone what they say.
@QueerMajority @RVeradonir 1. Bravo for diving into a v difficult topic, and for attempting to connect humans.
2. The "problem" is emergent from writing to more than one audience.
3. Hot take: term precision is important, but ultimately a red Herring.
4. Make the message and it's complexity clearer.
@othingstodo_com At a "lower perceptual level", 9 and 6 is more than 10, so 5+2+1 and then *something like* 6 less what 9 needs to make 10.
That said, I'm not sure people are capable of introspecting their parallel processes, encoding into symbols, and NOT parroting a learned heuristic.
The self-help book genre is dead. Chatgpt is any custom book you need, skipping chapters you don't and elaborating where you do.

@ESYudkowsky AI is capable of replacing education, but mass adoption isn't overnight. Academia is antiquated, but it will make noble efforts to adapt and stay relevant. Efforts will be rewarded as long as there's old money for it.
@JacquelineErens It may be a non issue in current versions, but that's a hunch. This was a problem in our lab more than once @mcmacdonald, years ago. Recently, when I went to look up a version number in the psychopy changelog, I saw "major updates" that addressed major recording issues, since.
@m_zettersten@DrMeltemYucel@mcmacdonald While made up, it's worth noting our 'elvish' vocab obeys English phonotactics. As it happens, we collected the bilingual data, but lost steam getting the matched monoling English controls before Covid. Any excited researchers want to pick this project up? ;)
Arella and @mcmacdonald presenting now, on the complexity of realtime, discourse-timed sentence production planning! Production with message uncertainty is the future, but I might be biased. #lcnl at not #cuny#cuny2021, but #SHuSP2021 https://t.co/iaUnPNpdDU
Refreshing perspective on what resiliency for #freespeech looks like (and thinks about posers like #parler). Last two paragraphs. https://t.co/MGdFKBTVxS
As a kid playing on computers, I would hide my secrets in one of hundreds of numbered folders. Great until I learned about 'search'. #cogsci2020 improved on this method for its poster session. No built-in search, requiring a PDF "key" for 600+ presentations. #RetroComputing
@StartsWithABang This point can't be said enough nor it's importance overstated, but it can be made in less divisive and patronising ways. For starters, stop saying "it's simple" so many times.
