HYPOTHETICALLY… IF I BOUGHT MY HOUSE FOR $125,000 IN 2002 AND THE COUNTY NOW SAYS IT’S WORTH $487,000, WHERE DID I ACTUALLY MAKE $362,000?
Did I sell it? No.
Did I receive $362,000? No.
Did somebody hand me a check for the new assessed value? Obviously not.
But my property taxes still go up because, on paper, my house is suddenly worth hundreds of thousands more.
That’s the part that doesn’t make sense to me.
This isn’t income.
It isn’t cash sitting in my bank account.
It’s a number someone assigned to my property, and now I’m being billed based on that number.
If my stock portfolio doubles but I don’t sell, I haven’t turned that gain into cash.
If my salary stays the same, I don’t suddenly owe more income tax because someone thinks I’m worth more.
So why does owning a home work differently?
WHY AM I PAYING TAX ON A GAIN I NEVER REALIZED?
A house isn’t just an investment.
It’s where people live.
You can pay off the mortgage, own the property outright, and still face a bigger bill every year because the value of the house went up on paper.
At some point, you have to ask what “owning” something actually means if the cost of keeping it can keep rising because of money you never received.
THIS ISN’T ABOUT WHETHER THE HOUSE IS “WORTH” MORE.
IT’S ABOUT BEING CHARGED FOR VALUE YOU NEVER TURNED INTO CASH.
And people are starting to notice.
REVEALED: A think tank co-founded by Facebook’s founding president wants an entirely NEW visa category to repopulate struggling American communities with foreign workers.
It’s called the HEARTLAND VISA.
They’ve already mapped roughly 1,700 potentially eligible counties—home to 58 MILLION Americans.
The Economic Innovation Group, co-founded by Sean Parker, wants at least 100,000 visas a year.
The pitch is explicit:
“In exchange for living in a Heartland Visa community, workers with sufficient earnings will gain permanent residency”
American communities become the destination. Green cards become the incentive.
The proposal targets places struggling with population decline, including rural communities and former industrial centers.
Foreign workers would have to live in a participating area—but could work for an employer located elsewhere.
The think tank also proposes replacing labor certification with an earnings test for the green-card pathway. That would remove the usual labor-market test from this proposed route to permanent residency.
The idea has already reached Capitol Hill.
Republican Senator Todd Young and then-Senator Joe Manchin introduced a version in December 2024. Supporters included AOL co-founder Steve Case, Americans for Prosperity and the Niskanen Center.
County officials would decide whether their communities participate.
EIG continued lobbying for the proposal in 2026.
This is an organized push to turn population decline into a justification for a new immigration program.
NEW: AP obtained federal records showing where 4.5 million migrants said they were going after being released at the southern border, down to the ZIP code.
They came from more than 150 countries, led by Venezuela (773K), Cuba (539K), Mexico (404K), Honduras (388K) and Colombia (354K).
Also on the list: India (85K), Russia (46K), Senegal (30K), Turkey (30K), Mauritania (20K) and Uzbekistan (16K).
Democrats' border policies opened the door, and migrants livestreaming their journeys on TikTok, Facebook and WhatsApp spread the word on how to follow.
You can search AP's map by ZIP code, county, or state to see which nationalities settled in your area.

WINTERS: Since 2023, 19 states have enacted laws allowing international physicians to become fully licensed in the U.S. without accredited American training.
They don’t even have to have gone to an American medical school. States are bending over backwards to accommodate foreign physicians who went to schools that are literally fake diploma mills, and that’s a generous characterization.
Texas even created a “foreign physician provisional license” under the Doctor Act.
This pipeline is developing very quickly.

One year ago, 250 absentee ballots were found in an Amazon Prime package. At the same time, Shenna Bellows admitted that an unnamed DC-area firm somehow got AB ballot affidavit envelopes. She's refused for nearly a year to name the firm. Now we know why. https://t.co/Ts0iEPw0PN
Vermont awarded a nonprofit $150,000 in taxpayer money to help people of color move into the state.
The group offers “white glove” relocation assistance and explicitly links the program to “growing and diversifying our population.”
