London Correspondent, The Irish Times. “Pontificating Brit” - Twitter. (I’m actually from Wicklow). I have more questions than answers. Not in Saved By The Bell
This morning I have spoken to the head of @TerrorismPolice. Following new information and evidence, they are now leading on the investigation into the horrific murder of Ann Widdecombe.
The police are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry to establish the motivation for this attack. I will be updating the House further this afternoon.
My thoughts today remain with Ann’s family and friends, and all those who loved her.
Breaking:
Andy Burnham is now expected to become prime minister on July 20, the day after the World Cup final
He is expected to become Labour leader on Friday, 17 July
However precedent means that he cannot become prime minister on the same day
As a result the handover between Starmer and Burnham is scheduled for the Monday
I’m intrigued by the argument that Labour can’t change the leader as the Tories did. Does anyone think it was a bad idea when May was replaced by Johnson- when he won an 80 seat majority? Or that Johnson should have been replaced after Partygate? Or that Truss should have been replaced for being Truss? In each case, it minimised political damage.

@roslynfuller@stephenfhwebb Ref Q wasn’t just to repeal. Q was to repeal and also give Dáil specific power. Same Q got 55% in assembly - that might be the most relevant. Using 87% to make point made in Pol Ex report was inarguably misleading. But I don’t care enough to spend weekend arguing it! Best wishes
@stephenfhwebb@saschaosullivan@Jack_Blanchard_@roslynfuller 87% of the assembly voted to not retain the 8th amendment in full. But within that 87% were different shades. The scenario that won a 66% Yes vote in the referendum (delete the 8th and let parliament legislate) was backed by only 55% in assembly. Not 87% as your reports suggests

@Farrell86O@abetucker_ I see he has deleted it now anyway. Deliberately misleading stuff like that really makes me grind my teeth. That it was from a political head of comms was all the more exasperating
@Farrell86O@abetucker_ This is the front page. Don’t fall for that other lad’s tiresome shit stirring, which he might lamely pretend is a “joke” but which is really just par for his long, boring, embittered course….
