“Not in 100 years has anyone made such an inept start coming into the office of Prime Minister.”

People welcoming the 'candour' in Starmer's Observer interview. In it, he concedes he gave a major speech on immigration, the number one issue of concern to voters. But admits he hadn't properly read it, didn't believe it, didn't want to do it, and regrets delivering it.
Hard to explain this based on sluggish economic fundamentals - the market is responding to high debt and borrowing.
Or in other words, high government borrowing is driving up borrowing costs for households and businesses. Utterly self-defeating.
Bad news today for the Women Against State Pension Equality, and everyone who has studiously avoided broadcast news, newspapers, letters, and any form of financial planning through the last 30 years.
Ed Miliband just faced his first real interrogation as energy secretary on @BBCr4today. Every time he was asked specific questions he resorted to rhetoric (though Nick Robinson rightly shut him down and brought him back to the question).
It’s clear he doesn’t have answers to some of the most basic of questions — like what happens in a largely renewable electricity system when the wind does not blow and sun isn’t shining (like now)?
He mentioned nuclear (our nuke stations are on their last legs)
Gas with CCS (an untried and uncosted technology at scale).
Batteries (again grid scale batteries barely exist and those that do have v limited capacity).
Incredibly moving testimonies at @kimleadbeater ‘s meeting this evening in favour of the Assisted Dying Bill. Behind every story was love, compassion and a deep, profound humanity.
Commenting on today’s public sector finances figures for October 2024, ONS Deputy Director for Public Sector Finances Jessica Barnaby said💬

For the second time in a matter of months we have a drug licensed by the @MHRAgovuk to slow down Alzheimer’s disease. Also for the second time in months, that drug will not be available on the #NHS.
On the one hand today’s news about #donanemab is a huge achievement - there is now real momentum in the development of drugs that can slow down the effects of Alzheimer’s, rather than just manage the symptoms. This is yet another positive step in dementia research and gives us all hope that we can soon find, as I call it, a ’statin for the brain’.
However, that it won’t be available on the #NHS in England and Wales is disappointing and disheartening. We urgently need to find a way to diagnose patients more quickly and make this and other future medicines readily available to all. I hope a way forward can be found soon. Those living with dementia do not have time to wait.

Great to support the well organised campaign of @pauljholmes in Hamble Valley. A good MP in the past Parliament as testified by the many conversations with electors @Conservatives

My goodness, car crash interview from @EmilyThornberry on @timesradio. @KateEMcCann being forensic and persistent in her questioning and the interviewee is not at all happy - and boy do we hear that.
The arrogance of Thornberry interview on @TimesRadio
Her answer to what Labour will do in government is literally: dunno.
And then getting shitty for being asked.
Public transport is what keeps London moving forward.
Improving our vital transport links is key to a happy and healthy City.
I will stand up to Sadiq Khan on his failure to move our City forward.
