The reason the Mounts and Shaws won’t be sold is we hugely overpaid and/or have them on salaries well beyond their qualities.
This is why overpaying for 21 year olds by £30/40m and putting them on £250k is too a big a risk.
50% of all transfers fail at the best run clubs, so to avoid more Mounts/Shaws we need a structure we do not break for just anybody.
🚨 Jude Bellingham on Tuchel’s criticism: “Maybe he doesn’t know what it’s like to play in those conditions against Haaland, Ødegaard, Nusa and Sørloth”.
“That’s not an easy team to play against.”
@CharZiyanah Decent take mainly, but I have watched s lot of Wedt Ham last season and M Fernandes passing is erratic. For every good game he'll have 4 bad ones. Works tirelessly but not better than Scott.
If United had spent 92 million on Tonali and 85 on Fernandes I've got to say I'd be over the moon. We'd have our three midfielders in by the first week of July, two of which are ready for pre season. Yes it's expensive but that's the price you pay to be ambitious now.
Exactly
Stiller is better than fernandes and the rest, but £50m and less than £150k wages.
Tchouameni is less than fernandes yet much better and a 6 that we need.
Scott, I really like and is better than fernandes, but if they stripe that price up, then Kone is an alternative.
Well said again @terryflewers again.
We all hate the Glazers.
They are parasites. No question.
But Ineos, for all their faults are trying to discipline the financial side along with bringing the football side back to the top.
This was never going to be a quick fix.
But the mellowdramatic attitude of @markgoldbridge and his flunkies will ridicule any action by Ineos and expect overpayments to be made and large wages to be given on players not of the quality.
Then when they flop, they will scream and shout 'Why did they spend that much money and give a large wage to this crap player'!
It creates better viewing figures for them.
Remember, we were at a point we were broke.
Also remember, £300m was injected by Ineos of which we don't know how that was levied because no additional shares were gained.
Would you input your money into something without an increase in the ownership?
No.
Remember, Ineos did try to buy the club outright.
The Glazers wouldn't sell.
Qatar was never an option as there was no proof of funds.
SJR is doing what he can in my view.
Have they made mistakes?
Yes.
But the club needs to bring itself back in line financially as well as on the pitch.
Then we can start buying big time players for big money but not big risks.
Lastly, this crap about players not wanting United and not committing is wrong.
Were weren't in for Roy Keane until SAF at the last minute went to see him.
When he did, Roy did chose United. That's why he signed!
Same for Rooney etc.
It is about quality, not just the spending total. A month ago, the consensus valued Fernandes at £40m–£60m, so dropping £85m alongside a £250k-a-week wage is a poor investment in my view. His refusal to commit and help lower the transfer fee shows his priority was a massive agent payout, a mercenary trait we must eradicate from the club. Criticising this overspending from Fellaini in 2013 to more recently of Antony and Mount isn't defending the Glazers; it is condemning them. Their reckless recruitment buried us in more debt (which we protest) and created a toxic, money-first culture in the dressing room.
This isn’t about defending billionaires, it’s about the reality of the situation, I want us to spend big but spending £85m on a £50m player in this particular context is not in my view the road to a successful club.
We cannot let players and agents dictate negotiations. Settling personal terms must require an immediate commitment, a policy that stops bidding wars and prevents overpaying by £30m–£40m per player.
Repeating this Glazer & Woodward mistake ten times quickly compounds into £300m–£400m in unsustainable bad debt. We did this for 10 years, from 2013 to 2023, and it is one of the biggest reasons we crumbled as a club.
There should be a battle when negotiating personal terms, but Man Utd fans who want us to enter bidding wars with other clubs are misguided.
Then let him go.
Stiller and Scott are much better.
Tchouameni is what we need and cheaper.
If his motivation is to make West Ham more money, then that's weird and not the kind of player we need
🚨 BREAKING:
Tottenham have won the race to sign Mateus Fernandes. Spurs have made the highest offer to West Ham - believed to be worth an £85m guaranteed fee - and the player has decided to join them. #MUFC [@David_Ornstein]
Who was it banging on about how United should break the bank for this guy and how Ineos were incompetent for not doing so?
@markgoldbridge
Would have been another waste of money like Sancho, Antony, etc.
If He is swayed by money, then move on.
He can play in the Champions League with one of the biggest clubs in the world
Or
Play at relegation level with no European football just to earn his former club a few quid more.
Not even earn him more.
If the latter is his choice, he isn't a United player.
£75m or walk.
Over to him.
🚨 Atlético Madrid statement to @diarioas.
“There is no amount of money for which Barça can buy Julián Álvarez. He will not be transferred to Barcelona”.
“Either they pay the release clause for €500m or there is no deal”.
