Very happy to announce the first publication from my student Euan Furness's PhD in Proceedings B today- https://t.co/Ppx8jtA5vj - using evolutionary simulation to investigate how environmental disturbance interacts with biodiversity. #proudsupervisor
We've reached the stage of lockdown boredom where even @ingridk's son says "I want to see the graptolite" - although here he's looking at the Bryozoans.
Really enjoyed @SteveBrusatte talk for @ThePalAss . Fancy the Cat was less keen. She walked over the keyboard freezing the browser. At least she had the grace to wait for the Q&A.
Seems to me that he knew he wasn't going to get away with facts he made up like - "chalk is made from rivers". But like all kids, he warmed up to chalk once he found out how it's really formed.
Seems to me, if you're a kid with half term homework and two households, you'd WANT to do the Geology assignment at the home with 2 geologists, one of whom is a lecturer. Where else you gonna get an explanation of the difference between limonite and siderite formation and value?
@seis_matters @Ri_Science That is - I know we could have anyway, but there's something about sharing the audience experience which means we'll be getting the same one as everyone else and can watch live with a lecture geared to home audiences.
@seis_matters @Ri_Science I have to be honest - this is great news for us. I doubt we would have even tried to go given conditions, but now we can watch from home. I have no doubt it will still be great.
Today some of our students begin their geological mapping project in Assynt, Scotland in a huge, multiplayer Virtual World delivered in our Remote Classroom. Pardon the dangerous driving. @ESEImperial
Geological mapping isnt just about rocks...its an experience. There's some fun, as well as lots of geology, in my virtual mapping world based in Assynt, Scotland. @ESEImperial
