Trump’s intervention in Colombia’s Sunday election is yet another example of how he – and the US government – intervenes and causes grave political and economic damage in Latin America. US intervention in Brazil helped put Lula in jail in 2018, thus Bolosonaro as president. The US-backed coup in Bolivia in 2019 that overthrew Evo Morales led to the right-wing, anti-democratic government there today. And the tens of billions of dollars that Argentine President Javier Milei got from institutions dominated by Washington: The IMF, World Bank, and Inter-American Development Bank have been essential to his political survival.
These are just a few examples from recent years. And now Trump, complete with threats – as he successfully used in Honduras 6 months ago– is trying to choose the next President, in Colombia. https://t.co/GhMzjysXoi
The future of Colombia should be decided by the Colombian people alone—not by American politicians trying to tip the scales or interfere in another country’s elections.
20 Members of Congress are calling on the U.S. to respect Colombian sovereignty.

Reminder that nobody has to speculate on whether Graham Platner is a Nazi from a muddy tattoo he got to look like a badass when he was a 22 year old Marine.
We have years of his anonymous Reddit posts - like this one - before he ever got into politics. They are consistently anti-fascist and anti-Nazi.
In fact the original Republican attack line on him was that he was excessively Antifa. It was only after that didn't work that they switched to the "tattoo nazi" line.
The United States' intervention in the free, democratic processes across Latin America must end!
Donald Trump and the U.S. government must respect the voice and vote of Colombians and end any attempt to further interfere in their elections. Colombia's future belongs to Colombians.
Israel has used American-supplied munitions to kill tens of thousands of innocent civilians.
America is morally obligated to end support of Israel’s devastation of Gaza and its people. I’m cosponsoring the Block the Bombs Act to limit the transfer of offensive weapons to Israel.
🚨🇪🇨 Reports of sexual torture, mass starvation, physical abuse, and tuberculosis are emerging from Ecuador’s military-controlled prisons while the government expands security cooperation with U.S. Southern Command.
Drop Site contributor Camila Galarza-Zavala reports from Quito that one inmate died every seven hours over the past year, pushing prison deaths to their highest level in recent history and surpassing the era when drug cartels controlled the prison system. Among the detainees are former left-wing Vice President Jorge Glas, who lost 30 pounds and was found unconscious after allegedly being denied food and medical care; Omar Campoverde, a member of the Marxist Movimiento Guevarista, who says he was sexually assaulted by prison guards; and Aquiles Alvarez, the elected mayor of Ecuador’s largest city, who has been held by the state for the past three months.
The crackdown on political prisoners comes as Washington deepens its support for the Ecuadorian government, supplying Pentagon bombs and deploying military personnel.
The photographs accompanying this report were taken inside Ecuadorian prisons by inmates between 2024 and 2025 and shared with their families to expose conditions behind bars. They were first published by journalist Karol Noroña for CONNECTAS.

Last week, Ecuadorian president Daniel Noboa was in DC hand-waving human rights concerns and cozying up to the Trump administration. Today, @guardian reports on the huge increase in forced disappearances and torture by Ecuadorian state security forces in the US-backed "war on narco-terror."
Lots of signals pointing towards an imminent US regime change operation against Cuba. The latest is this blatant effort to launder a pretext for war through the media, but also: 1) plan to indict Raul Castro, 2) CIA Director visit to Cuba, 3) increased intelligence collection
No country in the current economic and military situation that Cuba is in would ever preemptively strike a super power like the US. This is just propaganda to build a case for an invasion of Cuba.

CNN recognising that the Cuban crisis is the result of U.S. asphyxiation. (Not always been the discourse.) And that Cuba's solar revolution is one of the fastest energy transitions on the planet today.
#BREAKING: A new poll by YouGov, sponsored by CEPR, finds that 64 percent of Americans oppose the US going to war against #Cuba, while 15 percent support it and 21 percent are not sure.
Among those who express a view, 81 percent are against a war.
A return to US neocolonial rule. Remember, Cuba and Puerto Rico were the first imperial US outposts from 1898, then Panama from 1903. Panama is crucial because of its location and control of the canal. It will remain a a strategic forward location from where the US will attempt to “recolonize” the rest of the continent.
#Cuba's infant mortality rate rose 148% from 2019 to 2025 during a period of unprecedented expansion and tightening of the US commercial and financial embargo against the island, a new CEPR report by Alex Main, Joe Sammut, @MarkWeisbrot, and @GuillaumeLong finds.
BREAKING NEWS: 🇨🇴 President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro:
"If the United States does not rethink their policy toward Latin America, there will be a rebellion. You cannot continue to believe that the security of one nation rests on the hunger of neighboring nations. You have designed a policy that consists of extracting our wealth, blocking our economies, and dictating how we must live, while we bear the deaths of a drug conflict that you have already lost in your own streets."
Bloomberg is right. Noboa has banned the largest opposition party in the run-up to the next election. He now controls all the courts: judicial independence is no more. And he's buying out the media. So "consolidating power" is a bit of a euphemism. It's an authoritarian project
