Both points are valid catalysts that the market would reward immediately.
On headcount: Lores comes from HP where he executed significant cost restructuring. The reorganization into three divisions in April could be the setup for exactly that — streamlining a 23,000-person organization built for a different era. If Q2 guidance includes any cost reduction signal, the margin recovery thesis accelerates significantly.
On the account bans: this is an underappreciated risk in most analyses. The political account terminations created real reputational damage and permanent user loss. Reinstatement under the current regulatory environment is more politically viable than it was two years ago — and the active account growth metric (+1% YoY) would inflect immediately if even a fraction of those users returned.
$80 is our bull case entry point for a re-rating to 13-15x earnings. July 28 is the first signal. If Lores hints at either of these two levers on the earnings call, the stock moves fast.
$PYPL 7.7x earnings. 15.1% FCF yield. $903M FCF in a single quarter.
Management repurchased $1.5B of their own stock in Q1 2026 — 3.8% of the float.
42% discount to fair value. RSI 23.23 — extreme oversold.
The market is pricing permanent decline on a business generating $1.8T in annual payment volume.

🚨 NEW CHAPTER!!
They found the entrance at 3 AM.
Not through the main crypt.
Through a passage that shouldn’t exist.
Hidden behind a section of wall
identical to every other section.
Except for one detail.
A small mark carved at eye level.
The same waveform pattern
they had seen at Stonehenge.
Ani traced it with her finger.
The wall moved.
Slothana placed a hand on her shoulder.
“Whatever is behind this door…”
“…there is no going back after we open it.”
Ani didn’t hesitate.
“We were never going back anyway.”

Appreciate the correction on the Q1 2026 timing — that data point will be confirmed on July 28.
Your buyback math is exactly right. At $1.5B per quarter and $36B market cap, management is retiring the entire float in roughly 6 years at current pace. That’s an extraordinary capital return signal at these prices.
$60 is our base case target range. Our bull case goes to $72-85 if Lores executes and margins recover. July 28 Q2 earnings will be the first real signal — the critical number to watch is non-GAAP operating margin vs the guided ~9% EPS decline. Better than guided = execution signal. Worse = thesis deteriorates.

PayPal’s Q1 2025 earnings release filed with the SEC — $1.5B returned via share repurchase of approximately 19 million shares in the quarter.
To be precise: that figure is from Q1 2025. The Q1 2026 buyback figure will be confirmed in the upcoming earnings release on July 28. The $1.5B quarterly pace has been consistent across multiple quarters — Q3 2025 also showed $1.5B returned.

Thank you for the correction - it deserves a precise response.
FY2024 reported FCF was $6.8B per PayPal’s own filings, which already deducts capex by their definition. That figure is correct.
The $3.6B figure in our analysis was annualized from Q1 2026 reported FCF of $903M, which reflects the current period of deliberate margin compression under the new CEO. It is a more conservative and current figure, not a TTM historical average.
The distinction matters: we used current-period FCF under pressure, not the peak FY2024 figure. If margins recover toward FY2024 levels, the FCF yield at $41 would be significantly higher than 15.1%.
This is a valid methodological point and will be noted in the next analysis update
$PYPL — Current valuation implies permanent destruction of a business generating $903M FCF per quarter.
The numbers at $41:
— EV/FCF: ~12x vs Visa 30-35x, Mastercard 35-40x
— FCF yield: 15.1%
— PEG: 0.36
— Discount to fair value: 42%
— RSI: 23.23
The bear case is real: Apple Pay and Google Pay have native OS distribution that PayPal cannot replicate. Branded checkout is losing share. New CEO with no fintech track record. EPS declining in FY2026 by management’s own guidance.
The bull case is also real: Management repurchased $1.5B — 3.8% of the float — in Q1 2026 alone. Revenue grew 7% YoY. TPV grew 11% YoY to $463B. The network keeps growing while the stock price implies it’s dying.
The binary question is whether Lores can stabilize branded checkout margins by Q3 2026. July 28 Q2 earnings is the first data point. The critical metric is not EPS — it’s non-GAAP operating margin vs the guided ~9% EPS decline.
If margin contraction has bottomed by Q3, re-rating from 7.7x toward 10-12x generates 30-55% return before any fundamental improvement.
What’s your read on the branded checkout trend?
At 7.7x earnings, the market is paying less for PayPal’s $1.8T payment network than it pays for most regional banks. That asymmetry is either an opportunity or a warning. July 28 will start to answer which one.
Good catch — worth clarifying the methodology.
We use FCF defined as operating cash flow minus capex. TTM figure based on reported data: ~$3.6B. The $6B+ figure likely refers to operating cash flow before capex deductions, which runs higher.
Either way, at $41 the FCF yield is exceptional on both metrics. The $3.6B figure is the more conservative and consistent measure across our analysis framework.
