Crop rotation is your ally.
Over the past weeks, I’ve been speaking at farmers’ field day and sector conference about how smarter rotations can improve resilience, resource use and sustainability in field crops.

With harvest almost finished, and one more year of research ahead of us, we took a moment as a team to write down a few intentions for the work to come. Not just what we want to do, but why it matters.
For science, for farmers, for better tools, for resilience, for sustainability, and also for the way we work together as a team. Let me share these with you!
A pleasure to host the @CIHEAMZaragoza "Plant Genetics, Genomics and Breeding" Master 25-26 cohort today .
We explored how bread wheat & Triticale varieties are developed: crosses, F1–F6, yield trials and post-registration testing.
Wishing them success: agriculture needs your talent!
Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is down over 90 percent, pushing fertilizer prices up fast. With crops feeding 40% to 50% of the world relying on nitrogen, farmers are already cutting inputs. I talk about this and more in my new op-ed: https://t.co/7QkbvgJMvS
I believe excellent research must remain connected to real needs. By collaborating with private seed companies we can better understand the challenges of the sector and turn scientific advances into improved bread wheat and triticale varieties. Thank you @AgrovegetalSA and specially to @SolisMIgnacio for sharing your knowledge and exchange of experiences so openly.
I was initially skeptical about double haploids in wheat breeding, but some of the lines we are seeing are looking very promising.
Double haploids allow breeders to produce fully fixed lines in a single step, which can save several years in the breeding process. What is especially encouraging is that some of these lines are also showing high fertility, dense spikes, and strong agronomic potential in the field.
Great to see this in our collaboration with @EEAD_CSIC .
