Su nombre fue Amelio Robles Ávila, nació el 3 de noviembre de 1889 en Xochipala, Guerrero, y al nacer fue registrado con sexo femenino. En 1911 se incorporó al movimiento maderista y, posteriormente, combatió en las filas zapatistas bajo las órdenes de jefes revolucionarios como Emiliano Zapata, Jesús H. Salgado, Heliodoro Castillo y Encarnación Díaz. Participó en misiones de mensajería y abastecimiento, además de enfrentamientos armados, y alcanzó el grado de coronel.

En 1918 se acogió a la amnistía carrancista y, años después, apoyó al general Álvaro Obregón durante la rebelión delahuertista de 1924, bajo el mando de Adrián Castrejón, donde resultó herido. En 1970 recibió distinciones como veterano revolucionario y Legionario de Honor; posteriormente, la Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional reconoció su trayectoria como veterano de la Revolución Mexicana respetando su identidad masculina. Amelio murió en 1984 y su historia constituye un capítulo relevante de la Revolución Mexicana.
