@BrightonHoveCC, the @fixmystreet app tells me that "Brighton and Hove City Council doesn't currently accept reports from third party reporting sites such as FixMyStreet". What is the reasoning behind this policy change that makes it harder for residents to report issues?
Having driven a Kia e-Niro and a Ford Fiesta ST in the last few days, it's remarkable how dangerously overpowered recent cars are. Nobody needs anything like that kind of performance if they intend to travel safely on the public highway.
After 24h of intense politics, a pause to reflect and give my thanks and admiration to @CarolineLucas for 14 years of dedication as an MP, and for helping set up the current success of the Green Party. Big shoes to fill, @sianberry - you've got this! βπ½
As is tradition, "accidentally" found myself on the final straight of the London To Brighton ride with the kids on tow. Bailed out before the finish line, let the proper riders take the glory. π¬
@BTNSharkBike More updates! They've dug up the blue marked area, the leak is no more, and it's been patchedv back up. Not convinced those patches are going to last very long, but at least it's rideable.
@BTNSharkBike Plot twist! Blue spray markings have appeared, maybe the water company is going to get digging to fix the water leak (and hopefully resurface it properly).
@BTNSharkBike Result! They've patched the damage. The underlying water leak is still present, so we'll see how long the patch holds, but at least it's safe to ride for now. ππ½
@BTNSharkBike I assume it's a leak, there's been a puddle there, rain or shine, for months. I wonder if that makes it *more* or *less* likely that it'll be addressed... let's find out. It's a nasty spot on a bike, even worse with a 2-wheel trailer!
@BTNSharkBike Very dangerous indeed - I've learned to take the inside line. I've added another report, highlighting that there's an underlying water leak too.
@Bexonabike@TrevMu10@BrightonHoveCC We know that only active enforcement will stop drivers from behaving like this. Neither traffic wardens nor police can enforce as it stands. Perimeter paths of The Level used to have the same problem - I think there's private enforcement there now? Time to act, @BrightonHoveCC.
@VarndeanSchool@BATBrighton It's tricky, we appreciate your efforts. I wonder whether official communications from the schools would help: reminding parents in existing newsletters that it is *illegal* to drive through the closure without authorisation; or a leaflet given by the school to offending drivers.
@VarndeanSchool@BATBrighton The schemes only work with physical barriers (marshalls, bollards or gates): the only things that will stop drivers. Downs Infants works because volunteers close a gate; Downs Juniors has a stream of parents driving and parking illegally because they are not physically stopped.
@KatyCycles I think the island, traffic light included, was demolished in this collision in early August: https://t.co/OHHLE0XiCx
I didn't notice the signpost on the corner being damaged then, so maybe it's a new collision, right at the entrance of a School Street.
Not exactly reassuring.
@KatyCycles A driver demolished the traffic light a while ago... but what about the signpost on the corner with Grantham Road? Is that part of the original damage, or a new collision?
@KatyCycles A great example that no amount of space is enough without the vision and investment to allocate it wisely. With the current driver behaviour, the junction with Preston Drove is unacceptably hazardous.
@BTNSharkBike@NYCBear63 That all-powerful cycling lobby that can't get approved A259 improvement works in Hove to start, but can close down the centre of Brighton by demolishing a whole building. π€¨
I wondered how long it would be before I read on social media some conspiracy theory about Brighton's Royal Albion Hotel being set on fire deliberately to force through the redesign on the Sea Life Centre junction. Stop the clock at 07:00 this morning.
