You need to read more, and you need to consume less. You need to set aside time to do a workout for the mind, and you need to give it time to recover. Especially now that it's so easy for your cognitive capacity to atrophy. Refuse to become mentally obese.
Sometimes you work on something for days, and nothing seems to happen. You keep waiting, but there are no results. Still, you continue, and after a week, there’s still no visible progress. You keep going for a month, and still nothing.
Then, in the second month, your work suddenly starts to pay off. If you’ve managed to persist until that point, you’ll be proud of yourself for having the discipline to follow through on your decision.
When you find yourself in a life situation where you truly want to change something, the intention itself is already a big step forward. But intention alone isn’t enough. It has to be followed by action.
We tend to avoid uncomfortable feelings and fear. On an evolutionary level, the brain’s main goal is to protect us from danger. It will do this even if it ends up causing failure for you.
There are far fewer lazy people than we think. A block in taking action doesn’t always come from laziness but often from a mental barrier that holds us back from acting.
