Rio Tadokoro (19/๐ฏ๐ต)
โ V-Varen Nagasaki (CB)
V-Varen Nagasaki pulled off a surprise 1-0 win over Real Sociedad in a recent friendly, despite the Basque side fielding a fairly strong XI. One of the few players to go the full 90 for the Japanese club was Rio Tadokoro. ๐๐ผ
The young defender hasnโt featured much in league play yet for the J2 outfit, but heโs still early in his career and had shown real promise back in his high school days. Like many from the Land of the Rising Sun, Tadokoro plays a tidy, intelligent, and technically sharp brand of football. ๐
A right-footer, Tadokoro is composed in possession for a defender his age. His passing range, both short and long, is crisp, and heโs got the confidence to step into midfield and act as a deep-lying playmaker when needed. His ability on the ball really stands out. โฝ๏ธ
Leadership-wise, heโs vocal and commands respect, and heโs not shy when it comes to aerial duels, solid in the air and not afraid to put his head where it hurts. Ground duels, though, are more of a mixed bag. Heโs not the most physically imposing and could benefit from bulking up a bit, heโs on the leaner side, which sometimes shows in 50/50s. โ๏ธ
One thing thatโs both a strength and a weakness is his composure. While Tadokoroโs calmness in buildup is impressive, he can be a bit too polite defensively, sometimes trying to win the ball too cleanly when a firm challenge or tactical foul would be the smarter option. ๐บ
Hopefully, Tadokoro starts getting more minutes soon. His development seems to have plateaued recently, and without consistent match time, itโs tough for any young player to kick on. The talentโs there, now he just needs the platform to show it. ๐ฅ
